I'm tired of constantly trying to find a better, easier to conceal holster. Tuck the shirt. Untuck the shirt. Wear an outer garment. Wear a jacket. Etc. Etc. Desantis seals gunny sacks but they're all too big. Are they any concealed carry products out there where you can carry a gun in the open but have it concealed?

I'v seen some "fanny" packs with holsters in them. Maby not the fashon statment of the world but it is an option.

You might want to check this out: http://www.blackhawkindustries.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=1277&d=. Plus it has this feature:
Spectra panels can replace the closed cell foam lining for increased protection.
Which is perfect in case you need to do this:
BTW, I am, of course, usually carrying a pair of ceramic plates in my briefcase so that I can shield my head. My SO (we work as a team when necessary) has a similar accessory containing a breakdown NEF single-shot 300 WinMag with an 18" bbl. The plan is that I shield us with my body and "catch the rounds" while she assembles the NEF. I lay down covering fire with my 23 (Bar-Sto .357 Sig barrel) and she makes the long shots. I will then throw smoke grenades to obscure the area while continuing to lay covering fire. The problem, of course, is when I have to turn my back to run, and then the problem crops up.
:neener:

Seriously, I would not want to not have my weapon on my body. Once you have put it down, you have effectively disarmed yourself because it will be very conspicuous if you try to go for your gun. CCW is supposed to be comforting, not necessarily comfortable.

The "fanny" packs scream gun if you are a male in NC IMHO. It is just not something a lot of guys carry here. Have you looked at a smaller carry piece? Hey it may be an excuss to buy another gun :D. Maybe get something you can pocket carry.

An item of clothing, whether it be a fanny pack in some areas or whatever, that states possible 'gun' to those in the know is not necessarily a bad thing.

(The WIlderness Safepacker is a good pice of gear btw).

Someone mentioned CLIPDRAW!

I use one for my S&W Model 60 with a 3" barrel. For me it is safe, secure, and oh so simple.

Actually it looks a bit more expensive than a cheap flap holster. In another forum it was referred to as a portable dialysis machine cover and the new colostomy bag, among other things.

And we all know how expensive dialysis machine covers and colostomy bags can be!

Btw, it works and looks natural with jeans or cargo shorts. Which is exactly why I bought it. For jeans or shorts and a polo. And hot, humid weather :fire: .

There are some 'day planner' looking holsters for business attire as well as briefcases that are designed to carry a handgun in them.

You should seriously consider front pocket carry. The only way this won't work is if you are a stick figure. There are plenty of guns out there that fit just fine and don't really print if you use the right holster. My preference is a S&W 642 in a Sparks pocket holster (pictured below). You can also look to the Kahr PM9, Kel-Tec's P-11, P-32, and P-3AT, Colt Detective Specials, etc., etc. As far as holsters go, there are literally tons of them on the market to do this--some do it better than others.

I have carried OWB, IWB, off-body, and in my pocket over the past 11 years or so. It is a commitment to do it but there has to be a trade-off. Pocket carry conceals better, offers easier presentation (plus, I can keep my hand on it and it looks like I just have my hands in my pocket), and is overall just more convenient. Problems with my hip/back led me to start pocket carry again.

I gotta go with Tarpley...Pocket holster's are the way to go for me...It gets HOT in NC this time of year, and pretty much any belt holster is out...

disclaimer...I make most of my $$$ from pocket holster's, so I cannot give an unbiased opinion..

TarpleyG...Who made that auto in your pic??

As the father of a five month old daughter I've been thinking about something along the lines of a Safepacker that would hold a couple diapers, a wipes pack, a couple breadbags,... and maybe have a slot behind these for carrying something small and heavy. Dress it up in "Fisher Price" colors and I don't think most folks would give it a second glance. Except for other dads who might want to buy one. Sad though it might be to say, but my greatest tactical challenge these days is to never get caught without "carrying" ... a spare diaper.

As for fanny packs - to my eye it is the "tactical" black ones that scream pistol. Here in the northwest plenty of folks wear the ones made by outdoor/backpack companies (REI, Lowe, Arcteryx, etc.). You could take one and rig a kydex holster in it. For that matter, you could do the same to a digital camera sack or a portable CD player case. Sure, folks will think you are either a tourist or a music geek, but who cares? :D

FWIW, a SafePacker only fits the gun and a spare mag. No room in there for pretty much anything else. The way it works, you don't want anything else there.

There is a space inside the flap for things like paper money, passport and perhaps a couple of coins but that's it. Instructions talk about fitting a wallet in there, but certainly not mine. And I like to keep my wallet light.

Guntalk,
That is a good idea for extreme concealed carry...One of my buds lives at the beach and has complained about not being able to conceal a larger pistol (other than his Kahr in a pocket holster) when he is fishing on the pier early in the morn...Gonna send him that link

Makes me nervous though... :neener:

This may be a bit premature but I bought 2 of these ('cause I liked them so much!) at a gun show yesterday. And I am not sure if this would be considered a holster and you wouldn't want it but....

I was trying to find a way to carry a large caliber gun comfortably and in the summertime.

I was very impressed with these things. I tried bellybands before and they didn't work but this thing works fine. It is more comfortable than my shoulder holster. A friend I had with me was amazed that they couldn't really see the large (fake) Desert Eagle I had on under a short sleeve shirt.

I was told by a guy who walked up that you really need to wear a T-shirt under your shirt but other than that the gun is held close to the body and high (like a shoulder holster) and disappears.

I will try to give a better report when I have worn it for a while but for one day of wear I was extemely impressed.

Go to coronadoleather.com. They carry a number of high quality leather alternatives to holsters. When I travel I use their cross carry bag. In the "main" section I keep my sunglasses, cell phone, digital camera and keys, and in the rear "hidden" section my Kimber Ultra Carry II with an extra mag. It is comfortable, easy to draw from, and since it goes across your body, their is no way it will fall off your shoulder or be grabbed by a snatch thief. WHen I first bought it I wondered if it would be a obvious gun carrier to LEO, so I used in when visiting the Capitol building in Madison, WI (no concealed carry is legal in Wisconsin) and several times in downtown Chicago (again, no concealed carry is legal in Illinois, and Chicago is really anti-gun). I approached LEO's and asked directions. Not once was I given a suspicious look or asked what was in the bag. The advantage of this type of carry is that it doesn't matter what you are wearing, or what the weather is like. It also does not look feminine and is not mistaken for a fanny pack.

No offense, but if the mere act of carrying a gun is THAT much of a burden to you, do you bother to stay alert and aware of your surroundings all the time, or are you constantly walking around in the white?

If it is such a chore for you to carry, perhaps you should re-evaluate doing so.

Personally, I love to carry and enjoy it, even with large, heavy guns like the 1911. Sure, a full-size 1911 can get a bit heavy and uncomfortable at times, but carrying isn't supposed to be comfortable, it is supposed to be comforting.

That said, a pocket holster is pretty easy to carry.
