I took the 9mm out to the range the other night and when I cleaned it I noticed it was pretty dirty. I even had some unburned powder in it. This was after 150 rounds. I am using TiteGroup. Was curious if anyone else that uses or has used TiteGroup has experienced this problem. I was under the impression TiteGroup was suppose to be a fairly clean burning powder. Maybe I missed something somewhere.

Cast bullets or jacketed? For me, Titegroup has burned as clean as any other powder and cleaner than most. The gunk I find in my guns is mainly bullet lube from shooting cast bullets.

Are these some starting loads, as far as the powder goes? I have never used Titegroup, but other pistol powders can leave a fair amount of unburnt powder in the barrel when loaded on the lower end of the scale recommended in your loading manual. When I started using Unique, it wasn't until I got closer to a mid-range load that I started burning the powder more efficiently.

Lot of what you see is lube from the cast lead bullets, been useing tg for yrs. not any dirty than some of the rest, good powder.

Titegroup burns real hot, and is not the best choice for lead or "moly" coated bullets, but it does burn cleanly.

The lube makes most of the mess with cast bullets.

The "Titegroup stain" ;)

Live with it or switch powders. Uping the charge will help a little, but other than that....

On some of the cases I have noticed that just one side of the outside was pretty dirty. The insides of the cases look burnt to hell. LOL

Im am mainly concerned with the unburnt powder. Is that normal for this powder to leave some unburnt? Shooting from a Beretta 92FS.

I find that Titegroup prefers to be loaded towards the top end of its spectrum to get best results. I load 124-gr 9mm with 4 grains of titegroup minimum for plinking with lead slugs. With jacketed I use 4.4 grains and for Gold Dot JHP 124-grain I load 4.7 grains of Titegroup (AND THIS IS OVER HODGDON MAX, USE CAUTION AS IN THE STICKY POST AT THE TOP OF THE FORUM). The 4.7 loads come out so clean it looks like the brass was never loaded.

I think Titegroup is so fast that you have to get the pressure up fast to seal the case to the chamber before the bullet leaves the brass.
