Several People Stabbed At Memphis Schnucks
Stabbing at Schnucks Update

Police say eight people have been stabbed at the Schnucks on Highway 64, 9025 Stage Road at Fletcher Trace Parkway, near Rock Creek Blvd. Memphis police tell Eyewitness News four of the people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Four were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

At least one injury may be severe. An eyewitness says one employee was stabbed several times and that the person responsible was using a butcher knife.

Eyewitnesses say an employee "snapped" and started stabbing other employees. A Schnucks spokesperson tells Eyewitness News that all of the injured are employees at the store.

Reports from the scene indicate the stabbings may have started at the rear of the store, perhaps in a stockroom.

Victims were said to be located in the front and the rear of the store.

Eyewitness News just talked to one man who says he saw what was happening, ran to get his gun and held the accused stabber at gunpoint until police arrived.

More details will be posted as soon as we get them.

8 stabbed at grocery store, co-worker arrested

Friday, July 21, 2006; Posted: 1:07 p.m. EDT (17:07 GMT)

ARLINGTON, Tennessee (AP) -- Police say a grocery store employee stabbed eight co-workers Friday morning, critically injuring four before a witness tackled him.

The suspect, whose name wasn't immediately released, was arrested and then taken to a hospital after complaining of chest pains, Memphis Police Sgt. Vince Higgins said. Higgins said authorities hadn't determined a motive for the attack.

The attack started in the manager's office of the Schnucks supermarket in Arlington, on the outskirts of Memphis, then spilled out into the store, Higgins said.

By the time the suspect was tackled, six women and two men were bleeding from stab wounds, he said. Police said two large kitchen knives used in the attack were found at the scene.

The ages of the victims were not immediately released. Higgins and a company spokeswoman said all the victims were employees of the store.

Four were in critical condition at area hospitals, Higgins said.

"Our first priority is the customers and associates," said Schnucks Markets Inc. spokeswoman Lori Willis said. She said officials from the St. Louis-based company were on their way to the scene.

So was the BG tackled or held at gunpoint?

I do like how the first article doen't make a big deal over the citizen getting a gun to protect people.

See, 35 cents ( a bullet ) could have stopped this. One might have got cut, but he could have been dropped. long live CCW. Carry everywhere, you never know.

Wow. I know that store well.

As many of you know, my location used to be listed as "Memphis, TN." Actually, I lived in Lakeland. The Schnuck's where this happened is new (opened in the last year), and is less than 2 miles from my old house. I moved the family to Minnesota just six weeks ago. We used to shop at that Schnuck's all the time until we moved.

I called my wife to tell her about this story, and she just flipped. Maybe now she'll actually start carrying the 642 I bought her a year ago.

8 people stabbed?

was this one of them semi-automatic butcher knives?
Seriously, in England they recently had an amnesty program for folks to turn in their sharp knives.
I think we need to ban these dangerous assault knives.

The local paper (www.commercialappeal.com) is reporting that the attacker was a former employee who was recently fired. He was dropped off by a family member, and proceeded to enter the manager's office and stab a couple of people there. They say he was "subdued in the parking lot" by a man who works in a nearby store.

The Schnuck's is part of a strip mall. The adjoining stores, to the best of my recollection, are a Blockbuster Video, a cell phone store (Verizon?), a couple of hair salons, and perhaps a few other things. A KFC and a bank are in separate buildings in the parking lot.

It's a nice area. The surrounding neighborhoods are middle class to upscale. It has a county club right behind it, and a public golf course across the street. The Wofchase Galleria mall is next door (on the other side of I-40).

Any time, any where....

If he was actually shot by a citizen I wouldn't be surprised if said citizen's involvement was "overlooked" by the MSM. It's alot easier to tackle someone who isn't wielding a knife wildly cause he has a gun pointed at him.

They will likely treat the tackler as a brave selfless hero and pretend the guy with the gun doesn't exist.

Here's a link to a satellite pic of the location! For those who need photos for everything:D

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=...015,-89.761648&spn=0.004033,0.010439&t=k&om=1

I live 3 miles south of this location...can never be too careful. Remember situational awareness, have to be constantly vigilant! From BG's entering the premises to workers going "postal"...back in the Philippines, these incidents were described as someone "running amok" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amok) often armed with sharp objects...

Armed citizen in Memphis stops massacre

One prepared individual stepped up and halted a violent attack on innocent people. My hat is off to this guy. I might drive over next week and take him out for a beer.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A grocery store employee attacked eight co-workers with knives Friday, seriously injuring five before a witness pulled a gun and stopped him, police said.

The 21-year-old suspect, Elartrice Ingram, was arrested and taken to a hospital complaining of chest pains, Memphis Police Sgt. Vince Higgins said. The attack apparently stemmed from a work dispute, police said. Ingram was charged with nine counts of Criminal Attempt Felony to wit First Degree Murder.

Five victims, one in critical condition, were admitted to the Regional Medical Center, the main trauma hospital for the Memphis area. Three were less badly hurt and treated at another hospital.

The attacker, chasing one victim into the store's parking lot, was subdued by Chris Cope, manager of a financial services office in the same small shopping center, Higgins said.

Cope said he grabbed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol from his pickup truck when he saw the attacker chasing the victim "like something in a serial killer movie."

"When he turned around and saw my pistol, he threw the knife away, put his hands up and got on the ground," Cope told The Associated Press. "He saw my gun and that was pretty much it."

Police arrived within minutes and took the attacker into custody.

"He just kept saying, 'I'm insane. I wish I was never born' and that kind of stuff," Cope said.

The attack started in an employee area of the Schnucks supermarket on the outskirts of Memphis and no customers were involved, Higgins said.

Police said two large kitchen knives used in the attack were found at the scene.

Witness Frank Rector said the attacker held a knife high in a stabbing position as he chased a victim into the parking lot. The victim, Rector said, "was circling, trying to get away from him."

The ages and names of the victims were not immediately released. A company spokeswoman said all the victims were employees of the store.

"Our first priority is the customers and associates," said Schnucks Markets Inc. spokeswoman Lori Willis. She said officials from the St. Louis-based company were on their way to the scene.

Higgins said police were pulling into the parking lot as Cope was putting the attacker down.

"We commend him," Higgins said. "But we don't encourage people to take that kind of risk. He could have been hurt."

"We commend him," Higgins said. "But we don't encourage people to take that kind of risk. He could have been hurt."
No story with a happy ending like this would be complete without the obligatory silly statement from a police spokesman.

He was going to get hurt, taking a gun to a knife fight?

Pilgrim

guys not that insane if dropped the knife and surrendered, guess he's been watching too much TV and figured it would be a good defense, sounds like he knew what he was doing and understood the consequences of his actions, let's see how it plays out in court.

interesting to see how the media portrays this, guess they can't scare people to stay in there houses and watch comercials when everyone realizes they have the right to self defense, and that thugs and wackos need to be put away or put down, not let loose on the streets 'cause they're really good people that are putting their life back together.

"We commend him," Higgins said. "But we don't encourage people to take that kind of risk. He could have been hurt"

Yeah, right. :barf: Only LEO's can/should be the only one's that can stop a murder in progress.:barf: :barf: .
I suppose if Mr. Higgin's home were to catch on fire, he would make no effort to try to stop or contain the situation. Rather, he would calmly wait for the firemen to come to his rescue. Because he knows, the firemen will tell him when they arrive "But we don't encourage people to take that kind of risk. He could have been hurt":D  :neener:

The HR approach...

Reassign him to the fresh vegetables & fruits section. No butcher shop or dry goods where knives may be found.

Actually, he's probably headed for the mental hospital for a nice, long quiet spell.

"We commend him," Higgins said. "But we don't encourage people to take that kind of risk. He could have been hurt" You can be hurt walking across the street to.

It's not weither you can get hurt or not that matters, it's weither you can make a difference and help the innocent. We all die one day, like it or not. That man took the chance to help others and for that, dead or alive, it was worth it.

It seems the manager is more inclined to be one of the sheep than one of the lions.

He was going to get hurt, taking a gun to a knife fight?

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Then again, according to the sheeple, aren't the police supposed to prevent things like this from happening.

Wait, I think they just banned knives...

"We commend him," Higgins said. "But we don't encourage people to take that kind of risk. He could have been hurt."
Yeah or he could have not used the tools at his disposal to stop this attack and allowed the sheep to be slaughtered.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

As said typical ruining a perfectly happy story with a redicules police comment
