Station owner kills gunman

Memphis

A would-be robber was shot and killed early Monday morning by a Jackson Avenue gas station owner.

Police didn't know the suspect's name, and they declined to identify the station owner.

The owner of the Citgo at 4185 Jackson near I-40, along with a clerk, told police they saw the suspect hit another station employee in the head with a gun in the parking lot.

The suspect then dragged the employee, who had been taking out the garbage, into the station about 2 a.m. to use as a shield.

The employee broke away and ran out of the store. The suspect jumped over the counter and struggled with the store clerk.

That's when the owner shot at the suspect several times with a 40-caliber Ruger, killing him and accidentally hitting the other clerk.

The clerk, hit in the right side, was in noncritical condition at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.

Police found a pellet pistol on the suspect, who was dead when they arrived.

Ahhh.... Memphis. Well, At least there is one less violent criminal for me to worry about. It is very unfortunate that his co-worker caught a round though. No doubt the local media will be using this as an example of why you shouldn't try to protect yourself. Nevermind that he very well may have saved their lives.

Nutt Bush one of the fun areas of Memphis. I am pretty sure I used to buy smokes there when I was like 13.

Taking Tom Given's course I heard all kinds of fun stories about Memphis. I'll actually be the for a Seminar at Rangermaster in Jan.

Just finished taking my first course at Rangemaster. As I've said in other post I highly reccomend it to anyone. The staff and instructers are extemely helpful and very well qualified. I've already signed up for another class.

Hey Bratch, is that the warrior talk symposium your planning on going to? I'd like to go, but its hard for me to plan things far in advance with work and school.

Ala Dan, just curious, what brought you to memphis in the past? Your right about it getting dangerous, but its really happening everywhere. I was surprised however by some crime stats that we went over in my rangemaster class. In L.A. you have a 1 in 12 chance of being a victim of violent crime. In Memphis its 1 in 6.

oh well,

Last night was the fist stop in Glen Beck's Glen Beck on Ice tour. He was in Nashville tonight and then on to Pa. I'm not a big enough fan to go see him live but my wife is, so we went. We were walking Beal about 18:30. I gave a guy a dollar to buy a "hot dog" at the place that sells the "Big @55 Beers" Pretty neat atmosphere down there. Glen said something about Beal not being a good place for an alcoholic to be.

So tell me about this Rangemaster course.

Yup it is the Warrior Talk Symposium. The details are on that website. It was limited to 40 people. I'm not sure how many people are signed up so if you are interested I'd contact Tom Given's ASAP. Tuition was $100 for the weekend.
