I am looking for advice. I need to resize and trim 11 5 gallon buckets of 223 brass. I got my RCBS lube die yesterday and put it in the progressive and the resizer in the second position so combined with the case feeder this process is quick and easy. I was thinking about putting the Dillon case trimmer on so that by the time I'm done pulling the handle I have a lubed, resized and trimmed case. I came into a couple of bucks, but not enough for the Giraud and I don't have time to save up the extra money. Does this sound like a good setup? Is the Dillon trimmer good? I can't see a quicker/more econimical way of doing this to whip the cases out. Thanks for any thought, suggestions, and product reviews.

Best darn case trimmer is the Giraud. I have trimmed a couple of five gallon buckets of brass with that trimmer, and will trim a bunch more.

The old Dillion trimmer did not bevel the outside and inside of the case. The Giraud does that. If this Dillion trimmer only trims to length you will have to do this in a seperate operation.

I understand that I will still have to clean up the case mouth after it is trimmed but again, I cannot afford the other one and I don't have the luxury of time to save up for it. I really just want to know if this is a quality product that does what it says it will with good results. Thank you for the input though.

The other alternative - for about $33!

Search for Kinneman Reloading (google)

Check on case trimming. You want a "Possum Hollow" brand case trimmer. Gauges on the shoulder of the case like the high dollar ones, but, you will still have to chamfer/debur.

Call Kinneman or email - get the power adapter for it. Shipped, I think the total was $33.00!

Well, turns out the wife says buy the Giraud Trimmer trimmer if I am going to be processing 10k 223 cases for someone every couple of months so I think I will go ahead and take her up on the offer before she changes her mind. Oh well, there goes th AK 47 or CZ40 I was lusting after.

Sell a bucket or two of brass and you will cover the price difference between a dillon and a Giraud, or are you processing brass for others? In either case, it will be worth it.

Yes, I am processing the brass for a group of individuals to include removing military crimp, which is why I finally sprang for the Dillon Super Swag.. They are offering $15 per 1,000. At 10k intervals the trimmer will pay for itself and then I will have it. If I'm willing to spend $190 on a brand new Lyman DPSII then I should be willing to pay for the trimmer. Does anyone know how hard it is to setup and adjust? What about caliber changes...possible? How much do caliber changes cost?

What are you doing for $15/K. Resizing, trimming, and swaging?:what: That is a tough way to earn your money!

No, I'm not doing it to make money. I am removing the crimps, resizing, cleaning the primer pockets, deburring and uniforming the flash holes, cleaning the primer pockets, and polishing.

Most of this will be really easy with the RCBS lube die and a progressive and I assume this trimmer will do a good job of trimming and cleaning up the mouths of the cases so there really isn't that much manual labor involved, more time consuming than anything else. Oddly, doing case prep and reloading helps me relax and de-stress after work. I wouldn't offer that price for anyone else. I see the going rate is about $25 per thousand for the same service minus the crimp removal but I'm not doing it as a business. I could however be talking into the same service for other people at slightly more per thousand. The nice thing is this guy only lives a couple of hours from here so its easier to meet eachother than to make him pay for shipping both ways.

It's pretty easy to set up, and the instructions are fairly clear. For each different case you want to trim, you need to get a case holder ($30). You can choose to adjust the cutter blade for each caliber, or get a separate cutter head ($45) for each and leave them set up for specific calibers. Swapping the cutter head and case holder only takes a couple of minutes.

I suggest sending an email to Doug Giraud. Tell him what you're planning on doing and he'll give you the various options along with pricing.
