Tom Delay = Bad for the Cause

Delay did nothing wrong, and he did nothing just about every other congresscritter has done.
Long live Delay, but isn't that statement a glaring contradiction? Delay is our rascal, and that's about the best one can hope for in Washington.

Bartholomew Roberts,

Good post. It's kind of funny how redistricting always makes the headlines when Republicans do it. Gerrymandered district borders by past Democrat folks look like those Rorschack pysch test things. :)

As to the whopping, totally outrageous $500,000 Delay paid his two family members.......that was over a 5 year period. They make it sound like he just popped off a single check for it. $500k divided by 2 (family members) is $250k. That divided by 5 years is only $50 per year per family member. That does not sound too outrageous to me. Especially if actual work was being done.

I don't really know Tom Delay, but I did hear the speech at the NRA convention, and I gotta tell ya, he's either a very poor speaker, or saying only what he thinks his audience wants to hear.

I would venture a guess that most members of this board could quote the Second Amendment verbatim, on demand. Delay stumbled all over it, with it written down in front of him, and probably on a teleprompter. "A well regular- regulated militar- militia, being necessary to the securing- security of a free sta- state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I agreed with the content of the speech, but the delivery was abysmal. :(

Delay's minor troubles have nothing to do with why the Dims want to get rid of him.

This from Jeff Bell....in the Weekly Standard

The truth is that Tom DeLay is a special target because he is the first legislative power broker to be an authentic Red State onservative. . . .DeLay is the most important of a small but growing group of conservative leaders who are willing and able to operate without permission or praise from Blue State media. . . .Hastert, DeLay, and their allies have maintained unbroken operational control of the House, never losing a significant floor vote in the four-plus years since Bush became president. . . .If DeLay goes down because of overseas trips and/or fundraising practices that have never caused the slightest political problem for anyone else, the lesson to other Red State leaders will be clear. The four-year House winning streak, so widely taken for granted among conservatives, will not long survive DeLay. That is why Democrats and Blue State media (despite some half-hearted efforts to depict DeLay as a GOP albatross) so fervently desire his career to end as soon as possible.

The Dims think that they are still running the legislatures and doing a good job of convincing everyone else that they still do...except Delay and a few others. They have to get rid of him...before there are more like him. They have no ideas that appeal, but they have an agenda...get back in power. Be prepared for them to throw everything and anything against the wall and see what sticks for the elections in 2006 and 2008.
