Now it may or may not be true anyone ever said you could have any color model T you wanted, as long as it was black...but after a range session today I'm wishing that were true when it comes to concealed carry.

There are waaaay too many good options.

I had my S&W 6906, a Walther 9mm Q, a S&W CS9, and .45 S&W 1911scE at the range today. Was going to do a little shoot-off amongst some of my carry-able pistols. (All work for me here in the Pacific Northwest...not a lot of shorts and t-shirts even in the summer.)

Well, first I shot the snot out of the 6906. One not-too-big hole at 10 yards. Then the Q the same way. (Which surprised me as I figured the Q, with its much vaunted striker-fire trigger would outshoot the old-fashioned 6906, it didn't!). Then the CS9 a bit more spread out but still good for me and finally the .45 and very acceptable it was.

I didn't bring the Smith 642 wheel gun or .45 Shield but I shoot both of them reasonably well.

What's a body to do with all that choice? If someone would just hand me a nice .38sp J frame and say, "It's this or a big stick" life would be a lot less complicated.

After today's session it's gonna be the 6906 for a while. 'Till I do it again and then who knows? Maybe back to the Q, although I notice I'm carrying it a bit more than the almost-forget-its-there of the CS9. Probably not the 1911 as I don't really like cocked n locked.

And god forbid I try something new. I refuse to handle the new mini-Sig 365, I don't shoot Glocks well so they are out...and any of the other pocket rockets are just gonna confuse me more, so at the LGS I look but don't touch.

Maybe I'll just stick to the 642 and make life simple. Then again, maybe not. Anyone carry a Sig P6?

Hmmmmm, I tend to think more along the lines that there are oodles and spades of mediocre to crappy options and precious few truly good ones.

Yeah, I habitually carry a gun to protect myself from the ovwhemingly large number of idiots in the world so yeah, I’m kind of a glass half empty sort of feller.

That’s the way I tend to think about everything I guess.

There is a prohibitive amount of experimenting with different gun and carry combinations that compromises (sometimes unacceptable) have to be made.

While I do think variety is one of the spices of life there's something to be said for continuity, especially with your choice for your EDC. For myself I like DA revolvers, like the S&W Model 649 or 638, or else my Kahr CM9. All three are used DAO and are very easy to use and comfortable to carry all day long.

I've carried both the P6 and the 6906 IWB in jacket weather here (which only lasts about 2 months) and the P6 is way slimmer and lighter with a full mag. The spare magazines are easier to pack as well, though with 12+1 on tap in the Smith, I would often forego carrying a spare.
Both of those are a bit on the heavy side for me, though, and I pretty much just switch my P238 or Pico from the ankle (only spot I can carry most of the year) to IWB in the winter now.

The other downside to carrying a P6 is the rapidly escalating prices on clean ones and the scarcity of spare mags. Some folks also report problems feeding JHP in them, though mine has never had any issues there. It's a great pistol, but mine usually lives in the bedside safe these days.

I agree.
I think that's why you need to get s cc gun that you really like.
With all the clothing and holster options we have, you can conceal anything if you want.

I hate saying this, but it’s true for me. I have run the gambit of CCW from old S&W to modern race guns. Probably have spent close $100,000 on ammo gear and guns in my lifetime. If you have a gun that you shoot really good, stick with it. Become so proficient with it that it is almost an extension of yourself. Because when stuff hits the ocelating rotator you will be prepared. I don’t care if it’s big and clunky or slim and sleek there’s a way to carry it.

That holds true for shotguns and rifles also- and not just for HD/SD SHTF scenarios; even for fun usage

I made my life simpler, I carry one of my J frame revolvers and call it good. All I have to do is choose aluminum, blue steel or stainless steel. :D

If someone would just design one that carries like an lcp, weighs like a shield, shoots like a python, hits like a s&w 29, capacity of a glock, reliable as a sig, costs like a Taurus, and looks like a colt 0fficer........I might buy it.
I’m sure the internet would still be littered with complaints about it! Hard to find a holster for it, too much or little grip texture, caliber not sufficient or penetrates too much, etc... and about 10 posts in, someone would say you should have just bought a Glock!

I like your optimism. Based on a few recent threads I’d be surprised if it took more than 3 posts for the glock recommendation.

I carried a P6 for a bit, first gun I CCW'ed consistently for a while. Good gun but I just never have been able to really mech with a DA/SA trigger.

I have done the CCW bouncing thing for years, every 6 months or so I would either remember my love for a good SAO trigger and carry a 1911 or, then, get it in my head I needed a double stack 9mm and carry a Glock.

Finally I found my compromise of a good SAO trigger double stack 9mm in my Sig Legion 226 SAO. Now I dont get the itch to switch, though I still sure do love shooting my 1911s and probably will carry my Glock 26 some in the summer when it's too hot for my heavy 226. Maybe I'll pick up a 938 for trigger consistency, but it's hard to move away from how well I shoot the little 26 compared to other small 9mms
