I didn’t like Ohio CCW as it first came out so I waited 5 years.

EDC over the years

2009 Browning BDA(.380acp)

2010-2017 LCP

2017-2020 Shield9

2020-2022 M&P9SC, Shield40

When I got on the job in 1969, my concealed carry was a S&W 36. We could only carry what the agency allowed, on or off duty.

Later we were permitted to carry anything, if we qualified with it, that was a similar diameter bullet. So I carried a German Walther PPK/S .380. That permission period didn't last long.

When we went to Glocks, it was a 26.

When I retired, I started carrying a Ruger LCP, 1st gen, and that is pretty much all I carry on a regular basis even though I still have my Glock 26.

The First CCW thread got me thinking through all of my choices through the years. Ohio Concealed Carry Law passed in April of 2004. I was within the first 50 issued by Ohio. I would venture to say that most of us have had a Goldie Locks complex regarding our carry choices. What have you carried concealed through the years? Remember, that this 20 years of carrying and I used to be much more of an accumulator than I am now.

OK, let's see

Bulgarian Makarov. -- A great deal at the turn of the millennium, not so much now. probably wouldn't carry now.
Kel Tec PF9 -- harsh to shoot after Kel Tec fixed it. Crudely made.
Taurus 605 -- impulse purchase, my first snub. still have and carry
Ruger LCP -- no fun, at all, to shoot. relegated to the gun safe for those very few times it makes sense to carry
Charter Arms Undercover. my second (& third) snub. broke too many times. sold off and got a...
S&W 642 -- my 4th snub, still have and carry
Springfield XDS9, replaced PF9. no problems ever, still sometimes carry
Springfield XDS45. took work to make reliable, still sometimes carry.
Charter .44 Bulldog. (still prone to breaking transfer bars, so don't carry much).
Ruger LCRx .38 -- my 5th snub. One of the snubbies that I cycle through on whim.
Taurus 856 Defender -- the latest actual carry gun.

I have others suitable for carry, but haven't at this point.

I got my first permit in 04,about a year after I bought my S&W Shorty Forty. It was my first carry pistol.
Then it was;
Remington 1911R1-great shooting but a little heavy
Sig P938-great to carry but too small to enjoy shooting
Springfield SA-35-a sweet handling pistol, but the trigger isn't so sweet
Sig P320 Compact 45-my first striker gun, great shooting pistol, but a little portly to carry without a jacket on
Sig P320 M17 9mm-great shooting pistol and I like the manual safety, but also a bit large and thick
And I keep going back to the older Performance Center 40.For me,it's the best balance of size, power and accuracy. So,I started with it,I still use all the others, but I seem to like the Smith for most of my concealed carry.I vary what I'm using depending on what I'm doing and what I'm wearing, but I rarely go anywhere without something on my hip or under my arm.The time I'm not carrying may be the time...

Another Ohio boy here.
I didn't get my CCW for a year or two after they instituted it, and, honestly, I can't remember why...

However, to answer your question, once I did get my permit, I carried my 6906 for a couple of years before trying a Glock 23 (just couldn't bring myself to like the Glock; I tried, I really did, just wasn't for me)
Then a 4" S&W 66
A 1911 or 4.

Now it's my CZ P-01and my S&W 642.

Here's the one that started it all

i wish I had appreciated the quality of those Smiths before they went full M&P.

I can certainly appreciate that statement!
I wish I had picked up some more Gen 3 pistols over the years. Before they went up in price and down in availability.

S&W M27 6"
S&W M66 2.125"

High Standard .22Mag derringer as a backup

Sweet 6906! I've still got mine

This reminds me of an old Jimmy Buffet song
I took off for a weekend last month
Just to try and recall all my guns
Those HK P7s and 1911s
Wondering where they all could have gone

I didn’t ponder the question too long
I was hungry and went out for a bite
Ran into a chum with a 50 round drum
And we wound up shooting all night!
That's how that one goes, right?

To answer the OP's question, though, I've been carrying for about 12 years. It went something like this:
1. 1911, 5", in .45 -- because I "needed" a caliber that started with 4..... After a few years, I decided it was just too heavy. So I switched both materials and caliber.
2. Glock 19, Gen 4 -- Good pistol, a little fat for my hands, but I liked it a lot for a while. Still, after a few years, I decided it was just too heavy.
3. Shield 1.0, 9mm -- Carried it for maybe 4 years? It outperformed my G19 in every measure. I thought I might have been done shopping for CC pistols. Then S&W introduced the...
4. Shield Plus -- Virtually identical to my 1.0, except for the increased capacity, fits the same holsters, had my night sights moved from the 1.0 to the Plus (no machining required, FYI), and moved on. I had a couple of little bobbles in about the first 100 rounds, but it's been flawless since then. Truth be told, the Shield Plus may well be the last carry pistol I ever buy.

I haven't included my Ruger LCR in the list, because it's not really in that "lineup." It's more something I keep on hand for the rare occasion when I pocket carry.

Gosh, quite a few over the years:
Beretta Tomcat
Kahr MK9
Glock 27
Springfield Ultra Compact V-10
HK P7
S&W 3913 LS
Sig 239
Glock 36
HK USP Compact
Dan Wesson CCO
CZ Rami
And a few more........

I first started carrying in 1975, in Maryland if you can believe that. Very hard to get a permit even back then.
My list, in order;

Charter Arms Undercover 38spl
Astra Constable
Beretta 84f
HK P2000sk
Seecamp LWS32
Beretta Pico (current carry)

The first two are long gone but I still have the last four.

Off duty cop, back in 1987, Charter Arms Undercover, bought that year the day I got my badge. Still have it.

Tried the Grendel P10 for a while the following year when it was marketed to my agency by the company and a bunch of us bought them. It was okay, only ran for the one magazine-load you would have (internal magazine.) I still have it.

Walther PPK/S, Interarms-imported, 1990, when I transferred to another agency that actually required OD carry, but didn't have the Undercover on its "approved" list. Left the profession not long after, and sold the gun.

Came back to carry in 2008, and bought a Bersa Thunder 380 as sort of a replacement for that Walther. Ended up being too big for pocket-carry (how I carried previously), so it went to the belt. Also carried the Undercover sometimes. Still have both.

Kel-Tec PF9, 2010, purchased kind of on a whim during a high-demand, low-availability period for them. Still have it.

Kel-Tec P32, 2011, as a second gun to the PF9, or an only-gun while traveling to and from work site (EMS.) Still have it.

Taurus G2C, 2021. Actually bought a year or two earlier, but never got around to trying it out. Did so on the same day I tried out the next gun (below) and was immediately impressed with both.

Ruger LCP-MAX, 2021. Now fills the role previously occupied by the P32, backing up the G2C.

I do still have a lot of respect for both Kel-Tecs, as well as all of the other "also-rans" that I've tried (CW45, 1911, TCP, P95, Model 85, etc.), and will probably revert to one or both of them from time to time when I feel the weight of the current two guns and 35 rounds on board more than I wish.

I started carrying in adjoining states and where legal on a non-resident Utah ccp.
When Illinois finally became shall issue, I got my ccp asap.
* Sp101. I bought this well before Illinois had ccp. It is an excellent gun. Pretty heavy. Pretty thick. Low capacity. Big fireballs. Ear splitter. Crappy sights.
* LCP. Soooo nice to carry. I still carry it quite often. But it is limited for power and capacity. Again, crappy sights.
* SR9c. One of the finest ccw made imho. Easy to shoot well. Fully ambidextrous. Decent sights. Good capacity. Railed. High cap mags available. Loaded chamber indicator. This is now my HD gun/outdoorsman gun. Perhaps a promotion in my mind.
* Springfield Armory HellCat is my current ccw. Slightly smaller than the sr9c. Better sights. 13rd capacity with a compact mag. Conceals easily. Shoots great. On my hip now. 16594727563623604107611190791607.jpg
