Top shot show on History

These guys make horrible strategic decisions. Alright, every season you have had a throwing knife or ax or something. The VAST majority though is firearms. The guys they sent to challenge have consistently done well for them, vs say Kyle who has really just shown up for the last episode and Ashley who, IMO, does not handle the pressure well.

So based on 1 weapon which comprises the minority of the weapons used they significantly weaken their entire team. IMO, they need to think strategically in the team phase. They need to truly identify their weakest links and stop this "what have you done for me lately" crud.

The blowgun competition was interesting. I have never used one, but it looks like it could be fun. Has anyone here tried one?

I have, I got it at Big 5 sporting goods and i was always blown away by how accurate those things were, not to mention Penetration was always impressive.

I actually thought the Blow Dart competition was very cool and far more interesting than the Axe throwing.

Blue team was the first to hit a square. Their decision to go for blocking maneuvers with their second throw was weak. Considering they were the first to start, they should have made the team following them make the defensive maneuvers...not smart at all.

Keep in mind, the winner of the competition isn't going to be the red team or blue team. George was saying that their decision was stupid, and if it was just red against blue for the whole thing, I'd agree. It's not. I don't know about you, but if later on in the competition, if it came to pistol shooting, I'd feel better knowing I wasn't going against Tilley. I think I'd rather get the better shooters out of there, if I were the one voting so I wouldn't have to go against them later. They can divide them into teams all they want, but it's not a team competition. It's not basketball or football. There's going to be one top shot. I did hate to see Tilley go though. He was one of my favorites.

I was kind of bummed about the tomahawk throwing and blowgun stuff. It's called Top Shot, not Top Throw or Top Blow. I will admit though that once it got started, I was more interested than I thought I would be. I'd like to try it myself.

Looking forward to the trick shot stuff next week. Should be interesting.

Enjoyed the first year and am watching this years shows.

I DVR them so I don't have to deal with the bit__ing and complaining. Love that fast forward button!!!

Certainly, the entire team mechanic has very little to do with the rest of the show. It is obviously just to foster some sort of controversy. The only adverse effect of your team losing, is that increases your chance of going to an elimination challenge. Otherwise at the end of the day, only a single person comes out a winner

I wouldn't mind setting up a few stumps in the backyard to throw at. Where's a good spot to get some quality throwing tomahawks?

I haven't watched this weeks episode on the DVR yet, but I'm excited about it as I enjoy both throwing axes and blow guns.

I have a 6' blowgun in .45 bore. Surprisingly accurate. I might take it out squirrel hunting one of these days.

Strange show.....seems both teams were playing defense on the tomahawk throw. A better strategy would have been to play offense, position your hits in a way that allows you to score from multiple directions.....the other team cannot block from all directions and still play offense. Sort of ended up that way, but not by design.

For the guys who seem to generate the most hatred, they may have stumbled into a possible winning scenario. Only one in 16 competitors will win the big $100,000 prize....but get everyone mad at you and there's a decent chance at winning a bunch of $2000 gift cards, as well as getting in more competitive shooting time than the others. There is the possibility the second place finisher ends up with nothing and the fifth or sixth place guy takes home $10,000.

I really like this show. I havent seen the other seasons but this one is pretty cool. Im not following the blue teams thinking with who are being sent to the eliminations. Also does George rub anyone else the wrong way? Just doesnt seem to professional in certain situations.

Edit: Just read back a few pages and realized some people feel the same way about George.

Jay's talk with Jamie redeemed him a little with me. I still think he's arrogant but at least the editing of him seems to make him a little more humble.

I think sending Chris was a smart move. Trying to out shoot him would be much harder than trying to out blow gun him.

The tomahawk throwing was pretty cool. It brought back memories of going to black powder rendezvous with one of my friends in high school. His dad was really into black powder shooting, etc. The guys would dress and live "in period" for the weekend, sleep in lean-to's and tee pees, and one of the competitions was tomahawk throwing. In the evenings they'd usually get pretty liquored up and play "handles", where they would throw at a large tree section on it's side and try to split each other's handles. Looking back, not that smart, but I was in high school at the time and did my share of stupid things too.:)

Looking forward to the "trick shots" next week. One thing I've NEVER tried is firing a pistol at a target while hanging upside down. :)

Threw plenty of 'hawks in my teens, can still do it. I have fired in some oddball positions but upside down? Crazy!

The first season revealed that the "team" concept is bogus. Toward the end, it changes to individual competition.

So, during the "team" phase, it's best to eliminate top shooters at every opportunity.

If an outstanding pistol/rifle expert falters with a pea shooter, send them to elimination. That way, you won't be up against them later. A flaw in the show for sure.

i think they filmed this entire show in the course of one day... my evidence being that the guy on the blue team, kyle, wears the same exact pair of ridiculously stupid looking turquoise blue shorts to every single match.

Yeah I would rather shoot against Jay than Tilley . Jay seems to hold up well under pressure though.
I don't know. Tilley's eyes, facial expressions and actions spoke of mental and emotional weakness to me. I've never seen that from Jay.

Granted, it could all be in the editing ....

They only bring a limited number of clothes. Just a suitcase. Pants dont really get dirty so they can be worn more than shorts. I would only bring two pairs of jeans or so if I was on the show.
