If your particular AR is not very reliable and you don't know why, you might consider the trade, but you might also look at other AR's.

A few months ago, only the best AK's were as expensive as a run of the mill AR.

Thing is, you've developed a combat ready weapon. You have a ton of mags, and plenty of ammo, and an expensive piece. You might describe it as a range queen, but, for the price of it, and it's accessories, you should be able to get 2 AKs and 3k ammo. Atleast at current AR prices.

Basically, I wouldn't. What I would do, save up for an AK. They can be had for $500-$800. Mags are still really cheap, and ammo is still as cheap as AK ammo really can be given current conditions.

I don't know what you are making, or what your expenses are, but right now, I'd say make gun buying a priority. We have no idea what's gonna come out of Washington.

I like the AR but I get frustrated with it. I NEVER have any issues with the AK. So everyone can guess how I voted. Reliability trumps any slight advantage the AR might have.

I just haven't experienced the AR reliability issue. Granted I wasn't at the Battle of the Black Sea. I put a hundred rounds a week through mine, not every 10 minutes. So if you want a good, and fun as hell, rifle the AR can't be beat. If I was to pick one of my guns it would be my AR

My WASR 10 has never missed beat and is pretty accurate too so you know how I voted. But my reasons for an AK over an AR are simple 1.dependability 2. ease of field stripping 3. ease of other people that might need to use the rifle if you go down. Its a simple yet proven design.

UPDATE!

I bought an AK. I still have the AR.

The AK was advertised as a WASR underfolder, and when I went to check it out, it was really a Yugo M70AB2. Price was $725, and I bought it. (NIB)

Pics will follow.

i wouldn't trade it, but if you do you need to make sure you get a darn good ak, a jim fuller, or a krebs custom, nothing less.
glad to hear that you didn't sell it, and you still got the ak, i think you would have "kicked" yourself later if you had.
