Trade my P220 for a better match to a G19?

Backround: The Sig P220 was my first pistol. I like it. I shoot it VERY acturately with little to no effort. A great all around pistol.

Around Christmas last year I did something on impulse, I bought a Glock 19 with the nice NIBX finish on the slide. I haven't so much as looked at the Sig since.

As I have matured as a shooter, I'm starting to think, in my battery of arms, the P220 no longer really has a place. It is a single stack .45 that is taller and thicker than a 1911. With the exception of the .45 ACP caliber, there isn't much that the P220 has now that my G19 can't cover already. If it was a double stack, it would be perfectly fine. I am starting to think I should probably trade the Sig on a 2nd auto-pistol that is more complimentary to the Glock. The 19 is clearly the workhorse do most things well sort of gun, but I need something that is more of an open carry/fullsize that compliments it and does things the 19 can't already do. I am not caliber specific really, however even though a friend suggested a G21, I would rather have a G20 if I went with that frame size (I reload and 10mm is far more potent), but short of that, anyone have some good suggestions for a full size that covers what a G19 doesn't do? I.E., more ammo, bigger bore, longer barrel, etc...

BTW, NO XDs. I shot one recently and I was not impressed with the trigger.

Price needs to be close to the 500-600 range, as I don't want to spend much more than the 220 and accessories would fetch, and an autoloader. I don't have a 1911, but the only ones I want wouldn't be covered in that price range.
No revolvers as I have that base covered well already (.357 and .45 Colt)

If I dont shoot them, I sell them:D Lifes too short to have a bunch of safe queens...

A G35 would be a great pick up! I'm super impressed with my new Gen-4 G35, it's a one hole maker at 8yrds with a mag full of ammo(which is more than I can say about the P220 that funded it)

I'm in agreement. The Sig is a fine pistol, I've had a 220, still have a 226 and have no complaints. But that said my Glocks do the same job, just as well. I have G-19X2, a 17, 20, 21, and a 26, as well as 4 different 1911's, the Sig a Ruger and 3 S&W revolvers. If my life is in danger the closest Glock is what I'd reach for because they shoot so well and they have proven to be the most reliable guns I've ever owned.

You'll get a lot of advice to not sell the Sig. I don't see the point in keeping guns I don't actually use unless the potential for a huge profit is in the future or if it belonged to a deceased family member.

Going up to the G-20 or 21 makes sense if you can get your hands wrapped around the grips. Everything on all Glocks works the same, the triggers are all the same and you could get in a lot of less expensive practice with the 9mm's.

Don't let anyone tell you Glocks are not accurate.

My Sig and 1911's will equal this, but not better it.

For an open carry woods gun, the Glock 20 does have a lot to recommend it, without straying out of your price range.

On the other hand, if you're in Illinois, I don't think there's much in the woods there that a 45 cal 220 can't address effectively.

One other suggestion I've recieved is something like a Glock 34/35. A lot of extra barrel and in the case of the 35, similar round count in something bigger that could make use of the extra length.

The 220 deserves a loving home, no sig should sit around neglected and unloved.

I bought the G21 ammo isn't cheap and isn't easy to find sometimes. If only glock made a G23 sized (compact) 45acp I'd snap one up in a heartbeat.

10mmAuto is indeed a great caliber, especially for a handloader. I decided I wanted one last year, and went to my LGS to check out the selections. The Delta Elite was way out of my budget, and I wasn't a fan of the handling anyway. The other choices were a Glock 20 with an extra .40 S&W barrel, a Witness polymer Compact, and a full-size steel Witness. The Compact Witness felt really good, but was just too light for full-house 10mm loads. The steel Witness snuggled into my hand like an old friend, all the controls fell to hand easily and the 35 oz weight seemed just right for the cartridge.
The Glock was used but looked like-new, the price was within a few bucks of the (new) Witnesses, and I had heard all the fans praising it, as well as a couple episodes on TV demonstrating taking on targets with one at 200 yds. So, what was not to like? The girth of the grip was the first minus, which was definitely larger and more awkward than either of the Witnesses. The big deal-killer for me was the balance: compared to the Witnesses it felt very tall in the hand, and VERY top-heavy. A full magazine would help, but overall it felt more like a hammer than like my idea of a pistol. I'm old-school, and consider the ability to shoot a pistol instinctively and one-handed to be critical. I can't imagine hitting anything with the Glock 20 using that style of shooting.
The steel Witness came home with me, has digested factory and full-house handloads, and I've never regretted the choice.
IMHO.. Worth what cost you...

The up side of another glock is the grip angle and trigger pull and overall feel is still the same. Big plus's to that. Not much of a down side to buying another glock if it has a different use. The 19 should do most anything you could want one for. OR set up a glock for match use like a g34 or 35 and treat it as only a play gun. Trigger and optic changes too but then its not for carry.

Watch some of hickok45's home videos on what he can do with a glock 26 or 27 like repeated ringing of gongs out to some serious distances. Even with the glock 20, tune the recoil sprind to the load and a g20 is not hard to shot well ether. With a 6" barrel it can make a decent deer hunter too. Bid after market for glocks.

If you had not placed the price limit then I would have suggested Sig Sauer 226 X5. It does what G19 cant in accuracy.

In you price range perhaps a used H&K USP 45 Tactical. 12 rds of 45acp with match tigger and threaded barrel for supp; and I really like the H&K decocker-safety set up.

Enjoy

Why sell it? Inevitably your tastes may change. IMO keep it and save for a new one. If you do this over a lifetime you will have a nice collection.

If I dont shoot them, I sell them Lifes too short to have a bunch of safe queens...

All of the many handguns that I own and I'm not shooting at the time are in my safe. So, at any given time (because I can't shoot them all at the same time), I guess I have "a bunch of safe queens"...but they ain't going to be sold any time soon. :p

Traded a well used 220 for a brand new G21 and have been pleased with the results. Now I shoot a G35 most of the time and rarely shoot the G21.

If I had small kids at home the 220 would be a safer house gun - it is an excellent and reliable arm.

BTW, NO XDs. I shot one recently and I was not impressed with the trigger.

If you have the money and a gunsmith, a springer precision trigger kit makes the XD have (in my opinion) a trigger that is slightly better than Glock. I'm all about the glock trigger so the stock XD trigger felt TERRIBLE in my opinion.

But now my Xdm has a shorter reset and less uptake than my Glocks do. I love it.

Given your original post and what you sound to be looking for I would say go with the G20 or possibly a Glock 30 or 21 with a 460 Rowland conversion.
