I have a couple of XD 45 acp's really great guns. For about the past 8 months,or so I have been buying the CCI 230gr Brass at Wal Mart for less then 10 a box. I know even .38 special ammo is awfully high. I buy it for my wife and my .40 cal Winchester white box cost less then .38 special, go figure? I would recommend keeping the .45, but we all have our own preferences. With that said, if you have the money the SIG 239 would be my top choice. Otherwise I think the XD 9mm would be a great quality and money purchase. Take care!

The Best to You and Yours!

Strong list of potential picks. I'd personally think you're a winner with the Sig, High Power, or the CZ. I would probably rank them High Power, CZ-75, and Sig, in that order, but they're all good.

I've shot 'em all and owned some of the ones on your lists. The CZ 75B, full or compact size, had the best ergonomics for my medium large hand, and I much preferred the the CZ cocked and locked SA trigger to the others. CZ's are also quite accurate. They're the only semi-autos I now own.

The BHP fits smaller hands nicely, is reliable and accurate, and has nice sights. Its trigger, with the mag safety removed, can be excellent, but out of the box the pull is sometimes heavy. Because it is slimmer and lighter than the CZ's, the BHP may be a more comfortable concealed carry piece. However, the BHP safety's indistinct feel always made me nervous - is it on? is it off? is not a question you wish to entertain in concealed carry.

I've had all three and I'm infatuated with the Kahr K9. The G17 is a runner-up. If you want defense, the Kahr, hands down. If you want a "combat" handgun for home defense or taking to the range, go for a G17.

I'm not a big fan of the XD .45s....

If you like the XD 45, you'll like the XD 9. Unless you know you'll be happy with one of the other choices I'd stick with the XD 9.

The XD9 and Sigs are your best bet.

I voted for the XD9 since you'd have a reliable gun that you could afford to shoot.

You'd be equally happy with the Sigs though I think. If I could choose between the Sigs, I'd go with the 226.

I'm not gonna tell you which gun to go for; I am going to caution you about gun shows...I've been taken to the cleaners a few times when I was a newbie and unwise to what guns really cost by sellers that I dealt with; if you choose to buy at a show, make sure it is a dealer that has an established shop that is accessible to you later on...

I'd say P226 or CZ, whichever feels better in your hand. I appreciate the weight of the CZ, but the P226 is just a little bit bigger in the grip area and fits my hand awfully well.

Well, for those interested, I traded my XD-45 for a 99%, possibly less than 50 rounds through it, CZ-75B.

Here's a pic:

It was a straight trade, and I know that I came out a little bit behind, but this weapon feels like a "modern" high power, has the feel I wanted in an all-steel gun, and will work with the almost 1000 rounds of 9mm that I have stockpiled.

I'm happy. Going to shoot it on wednesday. :)

I shot one of those yesterday. It's actually a pretty nice gun. You will like it.

Congrats on the new pistol. You traded your old pistol even for a different one in similar condition which has the feel you want and is also chambered in a round that you have a large supply of (and is cheaper to resupply). Regardless of each pistols' normal retail price you got exactly what you wanted and didn't have to put any extra cash into the trade - you came out ahead in that regard.

CZ 75 straight up for a used xd45? You couldn't have done any better than that in my mind. Have you shot it yet? You'll be nothing but impressed.
