After a mind-boggling amount of research, I purchased a new Glock 23 on New Year's Eve of last year. I had owned my Kahr CW9 for several months but was craving something with a bit more "oomph". I slapped down the cash, filled out the forms, and walked out with a huge grin on my face.

All went well until I got serious about regular practice sessions. I broke my right hand a few years back and every time I would shoot more than about 50 rounds my hand would give me fits for about a day and a half. If I attempted any form of "rapid fire" then I felt as though the pistol were trying to jump out of my hand. Not only would my hand hurt after the session, but I couldn't seem to hit well during it.

I lamented over the issue for awhile and decided to take the plunge. I walked back into the shop I bought it from an asked if I could trade the 23 for a 19. The owner answered that I could and after stopping at Chinamart for some plinking ammo I was back at the range to see if my choice had been a good one. It was.

Not only did I fire 100 rounds without sharp pains in my hand, my groups were freakishly smaller with the 19. Another plus is that I am able to only buy one caliber of pistol ammo and practice with both of my carry guns.

I realize that this isn't a particularly interesting story, but I wanted to offer my praise of the Glock 19 to anyone on the fence about purchasing one. Go for it......I highly doubt you will regret it.

Regards from a Son of Gilnockie. ;)

I only have 2 Glocks, both 9mm, and size does matter, G34 and a G17. Been thinking of adding a G19 to see if I shoot it better than my CZ PCR, I holster carry the CZ or a SIG RCS 1911. A CZ SP01 or 75B may be a good range pistol or a 1911 in 9mm ( my favorite ).

Good move. I know exactly what you are talking about. I had my wrist reconstructed and I find .40 cal Glocks to be very painful to shoot. It is due to their torquey recoil.

I am far from an expert but out of every handgun I've shot the Glock 19 makes me look the best.

I owned two G19's at one time and then jumped on the .40S&W bandwagon and went G23. It was good until you shoot alot, then you find yourself not shooting well because of the sharp recoil. I don't have either gun now as I only have my G21, but if I were to buy another handgun it would definitely be another G19, I even shot it better than the G17 I had before.

I shot a 23 once and before that I was interested in a 23. Two magazines later and I crossed it off as a gun that I want. It left a imprint of the grip on my palm. The SA XD40 is a much nicer gun recoil wise.

Good for you, figuring out what is best for your own needs.

I actually went the other way! Got rid of Glock 17 and got a Glock 23, and I am most satisfied. 300 rounds in, I believe reports of its recoil are greatly exagerated. Then again, I also shoot my snubby .38 (LCR) quite a bit, and enjoy it too.

I didn't comment before, thought I was "strange" because the 23 doesn't have enough recoil to bother me at all. 400 rds last time out and it didn't do anything recoil wise one way or the other. I though the recoil was very light or my nerves are dead from the shoulder down. I carried a 45 for a long time, 357 good but loud, J frames ok but not great. The handguns I mentioned don't bother me recoil wise.

A G19 is a very good gun as are all Glock 9's. One of these days I plan to pick one up.

Hell pretty much any Glock is a good gun, but you know what I'm trying to say. lol

G19 is a great gun. Lots of folks feel the best Glocks are the 9mm versions. It is cheaper to practice with, more pleasant to shoot, andjust a really sweet gun. Put some Gold Dots, Federa HST, or Winchester Ranger in it and you're about as well armed as you can get with a handgun.

My favorite Glock is the 19 as it can be used in many roles..

Plenty of power for a CCW, home protection, cheap to target shoot, light and very handy and easy to rack for my wife too. It is hard to beat. No wonder it is the best selling Glock.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've put another couple of hundred rounds through the 19 since I made the OP and actually feel better armed with it over the 23. I've always felt that accuracy is more important than horsepower and I was all over the place with the 23. Thanks again and happy shooting!!
