That is good shooting with a BUG sir. Nice job, however, 25 feet (8 yards) is not a distance I'd want to be limited to in the woods expecially for small game. Not saying this isn't a viable self defense choice, but that is only one consideration. Groups much smaller than that can be had with the Ruger at 25 YARDS, not feet.
Clearly based on my target i am not limited to 25 feet. At 25 feet i have the ability to make precision shots with my LCP. I've only ever shot the LCP out to 50 feet, but even at 50 feet i can keep all my shots on a paper plate (very easily).

When hiking a modern or not handgun shouldn't make that much of a difference, less than 2lbs, unless you are really stressed on weight, what is the major difference between 10 oz and 32oz in the overall load.

Taurus makes a series of ultra light 7 and 8 shot revolvers, in various calibers. It depends alot on what you plan to shoot at, if there is a chance of mountain lion, or bear, a 357 magnum would be a good choice. you might look into that H&R 32 magnum as well, i have heard good things about it, ruger makes a fine handgun for it

Well Mr. Brian Williams and I share common taste in trail guns, mine is from the 70s when I discovered it though!

A .22 Mag out of a 3" or 4" barrel will develop the same velocity whether out of an NAA revolver or any other revolver. The only difference is the weight. While a Ruger might weigh 2 lbs, an NAA weighs a few oz. An obvious choice for someone who's walking through the woods.
The sights on Mini Master and the Earl are good enough for small game hunting or defensive use.

Just go with an NAA, you won't regret it.

I do a lot of hiking in the mountains of CO, WY and UT and I carry a .40 Beretta PX4 and two extra mags. If in grizzly areas, also carry a .454 Ruger Casul. I'm also 62.

Out here, there is some big chances of running across someone growing illegal substances.

Figured I would throw in a pic, it now has a T-grip and magnas.
