I'm looking for a good learning rifle in .22 Rim ire. I'm leaning toward a single shot bolt actoin and I like the models that set the safety with every shot, or at least every time you work the bolt. Some mossbergs fit the bill, but so does the Remington target master. I like the idea of iron sites and they don't need to be peep or target. Good old fashion notch and front post are great for me. The gun needs to be accurate.
Today I came across 2 guns. #1. is a Remington model 514 for $125.00 in nice shape with a rear peep site. #2 is a marlin 100 in good shape for $50.00. It doesn't have a safety but you have to pull the bolt manually for each shot. I'm just not sure this is the training rifle I want. Plus I'll shoot this myself for fun every now and then. Any of these single shots will manage 22 short, 22 long (I've never actually seen a 22 long) or .22 LR.
Any thoughts here? Thanks in advance.
