So I'll be driving through NC (familiar with the laws here), Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio to visit my family up there. I'll be bringing a few toys of course, long guns and hand guns. Seems like these states have pretty decent laws, but is there anything I should be aware of?

Also all 3 states have reciprocal agreements with NC, that I do know.

Thanks for the advice in advance!

If you have a N Carolina concealed weapon permit you will be good to go in Virginia. Couple of important differences in Virginia that you should be aware of so you don't get in trouble from NC laws.

You can conceal carry in restuarants that serve alcohol. Don't imbibe unless you are open carrying though.

You can carry in parades or about town and there is state preemtion so you don't have different laws for different coutnies or townships, ala Cary NC.

Be safe and enjoy your time in Virginia.

You do not have a duty to inform LEO that you should come in contact with.

Haha no worries there. I probably won't even be stopping in Virginia. We only go through a small part via I-77

In Ohio, no loaded handgun magazines or speed loaders in a vehicle unless you have an Ohio CHL or recognized equivalent. No loaded rifle magazines EVER.

I won't be going anywhere near MD nor do I ever plan to.

Thanks Ohio Gun Guy and Deanimator, that's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. I probably would have left the rifle mags loaded if you hadn't brought that up

REMEMBER - CCW reciprocity means just that - CCW....

when you take that handgun out of your pocket while you're driving, be sure to only put/place/store it where it's legal in the state you're driving through....
