Tripod Adaptes for Binoculars

Bottom line: if I were starting over, I would buy first a Swarovski strap type bino mount, and second an Outdoorsman Bino Spigot.

1) I prefer strap type over the spigot type. The Bog strap worked fine, but I picked up a Swaro strap. When your tripod inevitably tips over, you WILL break your spigot or the mounting screw (leaving a broken screw stub stuck in your binos). Tilting and panning with the strap type doesn’t put stress on the binos like it does with a spigot type - either you’re putting torque against the mounting screw, or the mounting screw port in the body. When you need to bear weight on your binos to stabilize in wind, the spigot type are bearing that torque on the small mounting screw and port, whereas the strap type better support the body.

2) Among spigot mounts - Screw mount type spigots are the absolute worst. They take forever to install and remove because the mounting point is between the bino objective bells, with little room for a man’s hands. I used the Vortex screw type spigot for a couple of matches, my first one fell and broke when another shooter tripped over my tripod, Vortex replaced it for free, and it’s been sitting in a drawer ever since. The last two quick connect models in your list which use a mount which stays screwed to the binos and a quick connect post are the ONLY two I would consider - but I would buy the Outdoorsman bino mount or the Bushnell with the folding lock mount, the one with the rectangular slot looks cheesy AF.

I have the collet lock quick connect spigot from Swarovski also. It’s fast and easy, and reliable. But I prefer the strap type over the spigot.

I do use my Swaro QD spigot when hunting, as it’s more compact for portage than the strap type. Albeit heavier than the Swaro strap.

These are the mounts I have on hand. I’ll never use the Vortex mount again. The Bog strap I only keep in case my Swaro strap breaks. I use the Swaro spigot hunting. I use the Swaro strap every range trip.

Yeah, the Swaro stuff is crazy high priced. The spigot mount, sure, it’s a heavy piece of metal with a cam lever and a brass collet, there’s some machining and casting there, I can kinda pretend there’s some money there... but the bino strap... for what it is... the price on that one hurt...

For me, the important thing is the speed and convenience. My “man fingers” don’t want to fit down between the objective bells of my binos to screw in and screw out for mounting on the Spigot, so I wouldn’t ever use again anything which wasn’t SOME form of QD/quick mount.

Some big dummy didn't order the stud to go with the mount and arca adapter. *sigh* So I ordered it Friday.

That said, the mount is super solid and well made, the arca adapter fits tightly to the bottom of the mount, no slop, and it fits my tripod perfectly, very impressed with the quality of the two items.

I think I would have to have a need for such a device before purchasing one. Right now I have nice Stiner Binoculars that are quite portable. If I want a stationary optic, then I use my gun range spotting scope. It incorporates a stable mono block that clips and locks into the tripod head. And it does have a quick release bracket.

For a while I tried using a huge, heavy 25x100 binocular on a tripod and never found a mount that worked well. (I was going to specifically warn you off of the Bushnell mount, #4 on your list, but see there was no need.)

Someday I am going to treat myself to a parallelogram stand like this one from Orion.

Thought about that type of holder.

I do.

Yep.

As I could as well, but I have experienced for myself how much more I can see through binoculars vs a spotting scope at a PRS match and the yardages they shoot.

And it's hard (impossible?) to hold 15X binoculars still enough to see detail through mirage, so........ :)

late to the discussion, but what are you guys talking about? why not just use the swiss arca adapter on the bottom of the binos and lock it into arca slot on a ball head? why do you need special mounts?

I’m not following? No binos I have owned have had integral ARCA mounts.

I use an arca plate with all of the products I posted above (with the exception of the Swaro strap, as it has an integral arca foot) and lock directly to my tripod.

No binos don’t have an integral arca plate. But they almost all have the camera adapter style screw with the pin. And you can buy an arca plate that fits it.

that’s basically how I attach my laser range finder to my rrs ball head and tripod.

I’ll take some pics when I get home

Nothing like that on any of my binos on their belly. The only attachment point is the main pivot which accepts a screw or adapter stud for the spigot type mounts.

Some of my older LRF’s had 1/4” ferrules in the bottom edge meant for mounting to a tripod, but neither my Sig Kilo 2200 or Leica 1600B have that ability. I usually just freehold my Leica against my binos or on top of my rifle when using it, but I have a Blamm 3D printed sleeve for my Sig to hard dock into my tripod.

Huh. My binos and lrf had the screw so I just assumed they all did

my actual binos were stolen a couple years ago so I just took pics of my LRF with the little camera screw to arca rail adapter sold by rrs that lets me attach them directly. I guess this prob isn’t too helpful now.
