any one use true blue for 9mm and or 40 , range plunking with plated bullets ,
Have read it meters really well,
Just asking it always fun to try a different powder I'm using hs-6 now, I'm happy with hs-6 I'm curious about true blue

I use it mostly in 9x19 and mostly with plated bullets. I discovered it around 2009 when powders were getting hard to find. True Blue was not well known at the time and quantities were plentiful.

It is a small grain powder so it does meter well. I've probably tried it in 40 S&W but I do not shoot much of it so it has been a while since I loaded any. Also, I've used it a little in 38 Super.

Western Powders has load data for True Blue in many cartridges.

I like it.

It's good stuff in 9MM, and in general. Some powders meter as well, but nothing meters better. I like it too.

HS-6 will get you a bit more velocity.

I use it with plated bullets in .40 S&W. It doesn't like to be loaded light, leaving a lot of residue in the gun, but near the top end, it burns clean.

Hope this helps.

thanks guys on a side note I use magnum primers CCI 550 with HS-6, I load HS-6 close to the starting charge and the magnum primers keep it fairly clean,
I wounder if I used CCI 550 with true blue at the lower end if it would clean up ?

I've never tried magnum powders with True Blue.

As a note, use current load data. When I first started using True Blue in 9x19, the max load was higher than it is with Western Powder's current 6.0 edition.

True true blue had a big data makeover a few years back I remember reading about the change

I have tried True blue but I find Accurate # 5 is more versatile for me.

I have tried quite a few different powders for 9mm, and I have found True Blue to be one of the most accurate for moderate (1000 fps) loadings. One of my favorite powders.

Yes, True Blue meters very well. I use it in my plinking .357mag loads and use an RCBS Uniflow powder measure. It measures repeatedly and does not bind the action up like flake and extruded powders do. However, I would not recommend using it in a Lyman Gen6 auto dispenser! Fine ball powder leaks quite easily and is a bugger to clean up. I won't be doing that again.

Interesting, I use ball powders in my Lyman gen 6 all the time with no leakage. I used Win 296 alot which is like the consistancy of table salt. Only think I don't like about it is that its a pain to clean ball powder out of it. I know mine came with a set of replacement seals for the powder tube, mabey you need to replace them?

My Lyman was practically brand new when I tried it (had loaded maybe 300 before it). I don't get any leakage with extruded powders. I do have another set of scales, but since it meters so well in my uniflow with micrometer setting I just stick with that. I don't need to weigh every charge because it's so consistent, plus I don't notice much difference in the plinking rounds.

I like the True Blue and 9mm combination...but I wouldn't try to download it. IME, starting data may not cycle; midrange data is just ok; near the top of the data is where the groups tighten up and the powder cleans up - no surprise there. It's a slower handgun powder - if you want light loads, use a faster powder.

I ran some True Blue reloads through a XDS 9x19 3.3" here is what I came up with.
brass, Blazer
primer, CCI 500
bullet, X-treme 135gr plated HP
COL, 1.095"
charge, 5.3 gr True Blue
H= 1013 fps
L= 1000 fps
sd= 4
shots= 7
accuracy was okay I will try 5.4 and 5.5 gr next.
I worked this up from 5.1 and 5.2 gr of True Blue which was nothing to get excited about.
