I am looking around to see if there is a company who makes custom barrels. In my case I would send in a new barrel, and would want them to make a couple carbon copies of the barrel I provided. I think it's my only option if I want spare barrels for a gun the manufacturer no longer produces barrel for.
It's for Steyr M pistol, so I'm guessing anyone who can truly make a custom glock barrel can do it, but I'm no expert, here to ask questions and annoy you :D

Also, it would be interesting to know if one could design a firearm from the scratch and send the drawings to a custom barrel maker and have them made. (Let's not distract me into legal issues in this thread)

TIA, I hope y'all voted!

Lots of companies can, or could.

If you are willing to pay about $20 grand each for the tooling, CAD Drawings, CMC Programing, heat treating, pressure testing, Etc.

In short, no, you can't afford to have 'a couple extra barrels' made from scratch.

Let alone a complete functioning handgun.
It would be more in the half mil+ range before you got a working prototype back.

If you are specifically talking about a Styer M 1912, why not just purchase another one. The current cost on gunbroker for a shooter grade is around $500, which is a fraction of the cost of getting even a single new barrel produced.

No it's M357. And I believe there is a definite advantage in having one gun with a spare barrel, than have one pristine gun that I never shoot and a beater I don't know where to get parts from. Are you implying even copying a brand new barrel would cost substantially more than the retail cost of barrels for the usual firearms?

... I don't know if I should be offended hahaha. I already called to make sure(?) that they do not sell or even produce M357 barrel.

I would like to know options in making (copying a brand new) barrels as I've explored and have not found anyone who produces them.

I think what he is saying is that copying a new barrel...machining it from a barrel blank...would cost substantially more that the retail cost of a complete pistol.

You're talking about a skilled machinist taking a large diameter barrel and hand machining out a pistol barrel to match another. I can't even imaging that the cost wouldn't be in four figures

Four figures sound better than 20k/barrel, hahaha.

I did not know that wow, I thought since the CNC machines are there, all they had to do is 3D-scan one, touch up some measurements and press "go" ...

At this point it sounds cheaper to buy as many guns I can and use them as parts gun hmm. Thanks everyone :)
