Trying a Wrangler

I got my wrangler today. I am very pleased with it. It may not be a single six, but it feels almost as good in the hand. The holster is surprisingly nice, and the shop I transferred through was much better than the last time I went there. Overall A+ experience today. Sadly no time to shoot today, still trying to get a house sold. So for now, I can only report on the things I see people griping about.

No paint in the barrel!

Barrel feels nice and tight. Zero wiggle.

Painted finish looks very nice. Almost looks like a bead blasted blued finish.

timing checks out on all 6 torpedo tubes.

trigger isn’t great but also not awful. I know my way around a SA revolver and will slick that right up… after I move… and get the kids settled… maybe this year.

cylinder looks a lot like the one from my single six, but there’s just enough difference that they won’t get mixed up easily.

The bug has bitten. I already want more guns like this one. Give me a 357 carryhawk!!!

you are hereby counseled: single action revolvers are an addiction and the ruger wrangler is a gateway drug.

For a decade or better I have pined desperately for a heritage birdshead. It has never happened. My Christmas ordeal burned me on Heritage so when I saw this I threw out one of those “I’ll never get it” bids on Gunbroker. Won it with my max bid.

225 bid
19 tax
15 shipping
25 transfer
10 state background check
$294 all in.

I think I did OK, and it checks the box for the birdshead. Not a steal, but not terrible.

That's the same one I have with the DeSantis holster. I love it. Most accurate .22 lr SA revolver I own. It loves CCI Mini Mags.

I looked at three of them at an auction, NIB a year ago, and was turned off by the HUGE cyl. to barrel gap. Maybe for high volume production, they ensured that gap would be enough? Well, the ones I looked at would lose a lot of gas pressure. I'd like to hear what it looks like when fired at dusk. Probably blows a lot of fire out the sides and loses a lot of fps?

I was in the F&R store again yesterday afternoon. Not finding what I was looking for I completed my visit as I aways do, by looking at their gun selection. They seem to always have a number of rough riders under glass but there was not a one to be seen while the bird's head wranglers had grown to seven in number. I don't know it that means anything or not.
