1898 Marlin Project Need Help!!!
I bought a 1898 Marlin at an estate auction on Sunday. I wanted to use it as a backup for my 97 Winchester (I have a thing for exposed hammers) but the wood that came with it was for a 17 Marlin with a straight stock. The forend also needs to be replaced. These didn't bother me because I bought it as a project gun and the metal is in great shape with most of the original finish intact.
So my questions are.
What size forend screws dose it take?
What size Tang screw is needed for the stock?
Are there forend off of other guns that will fit (wood or synthetic)?
Dose anyone make replacement stocks or are any other stocks compatible?
If anyone has fixed up or owns any old marlin shotguns I would love to see them.
I don't care what the forend is off of as long as it fits, Mossberg, Ithaca, Charles Daly, others.
