Trying to help a friend 9mm choice

The Rugers are the only guns (of those presented) that I'd stake my life on. Bersa and Taurus are unreliable at best. I'm not sold on the SR9 quite yet, but I can't persuade / dissuade. Interesting choices though.

I have both the P95 and SR9C and voted for the 95 only because it was the underdog in the poll. They are both GREAT!

Of these four the P95 is the obvious choice. I have owned and still own some Taurus and Bersa guns; won't be buying any more.

I don't have personal experience with any of the guns you have listed, but I have anecdotal evidence that the SR9c is a gun with more fans than detractors. If I were to personally choose just between the guns listed for myself I would go with the SR9c.

Out of those 4 I would lean towards one of the Rugers because I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I own a P95 and it has been extremely dependable and a great gun for the $300 I paid...at $220 NIB it's a steal. I wanted it primarily for range use, home defense and the occasional open carry. It works great for all those tasks but too big to carry concealed IMO.

The SR9c is a little smaller than the P95 and should be easier to carry IWB or similar. The price on the SR9c does seem a little high, I see them for $400 regularly, but especially compared to the $220 for the P95.

Where did you find the p95 for $220?
I'm wanting a plinking and possible carry gun myself, but the wife says I have to wait until after Christmas and we get the funds again, so I've just been reading up on them for now. I had pretty much settled on the sr9c, because the cost difference was only $50 at the websites I've checked.

California really needs to lighten up.

They are ruining a lot of today's manufacturers attempts to make a really nice handgun for us to protect our self preservation. Mag disconnects, pop-up loaded chamber indicators, manual safety levers, grip safeties, and blah blah blah.

So if your locked into those addendum`s then from your list I'd go with one of your listed Rugers, BUT, for my doll-ah there are other much better choices, I think, out there, without all those doo-dads.

And I say that only because I, personally, wouldn't get anything California Ready. Too much to think of when the walkers turn the corner!! Is the safety lever off? Is the mag seated properly?? Do I have a firm enough grip on the safety grip thing-ee??? Ouch I caught the chamber indicator on the holster and it got hug up!!!! Yo walker stop for second and let me start over again, please????? Though Your Mileage Will Vary > gaarrrr chomp ouch my neck

Congrats to your friend on his new Ruger SR9.

Out of the four choices you had and the duties for it I would have chosen the same gun. If you had taken out the carry part, I would have chosen the P95 for much less.

I bought an SR9c for jiust under 400. It's a great gun for CC and fun at the range. I can't believe the price of P94--that's 100 less then what the nearest LGS has. It's a great range gun, but too heavy for me to CC.

I voted for the P95, but I've just finished my 2000th round in my S&W Sigma and it has been a stellar performer. For 300.00 minus the rebate Smith had I would say it was a great value in a new, duty-size 9. I cannot find one thing to complain about with this choice. You may look for a used one - I understand they are quite reasonable.

I love my SR9 (not C, fullsize). 300 rds thru it so far and not a hint of an FTF. Got another hundred ready to fling downrange when it's not so wet/cold/windy out. $340 out the door a few weeks ago.

Out of those listed I'd go with the SR9C. Great company and a good gun for both carry and range use (compact but still fun to shoot). But man, that is one ENORMOUS loaded chamber indicator. It's like a flagman waving traffic or something.

My preference is for S&W M&Ps however. They also have a low profile LCI, it's just a notch cut into the top of the barrel hood.

I like the SR9c. I have about 300 rounds through mine, with only one failure, due to getting a hand in the way of the recoiling slide due to a bonehead grip maneuver.

I've never had any problem with a mis seated magazine, I like the safety and the loaded chamber indicator. The sights on the SR9c are great and the loaded chamber indicator does not interfere with sighting.

Up till now I've been a big DA/SA fan, but the striker fired technology is starting to win me over.

What a pointless addition to the worldwide bank of information known as the internet.

That said, of the choices listed, the Ruger SR9c would be my first choice for a a gun to be used for both carry and range fun duty. They are splendid pistols - reliable, accurate, well-made, and slim. You should be able to find them for right at $400.

Of the other choices, these are my feelings:

Bersa Thunder 9mm Pro: A nice pistol that is a loose copy of the Walther P88, which is perhaps the finest 9mm pistol ever made. That said, I would find it too large/heavy for concealed carry.

Taurus PT809: Life is too short to deal with crappy QA and even crappier customer service.

Ruger P95: A supremely reliable pistol, but too chunky to easily carry, and not a particularly fun range toy. The ergonomics are a little clunky.

I have no personal experience with any of those guns... but by what I've seen/read, P95 is your best bang for buck. At least it sounds like it in your case.
