TSA- "watch that attitude"

When statutes are enacted,

agencies are created to enforce them. With that duty comes the authority to propose and enact regulations and the penalties for violating same. This is hardly new.

"If all they are trying to do is make it safe for the sheep, then either onfiscate
or arrest."

Now THERE'S a solution! Yes, it would have been SO much cheaper and easier for my wife to have been arrested and tried on criminal charges than to simply repack the paring knife, continue on our way, and deal with a fine at our leisure, in our home, by phone.

What's your next suggested "improvement?" Summary public flogging by the roadside for speeding?

the TSA wont let me have my survival tools.
...
and my lighter
and my flashlight

Have the rules changed again? The last time I flew my surefire and pocket lighter were fine. Have they changed their mind about this?

"What law grants the TSA the authority to assess fines?"

This is from the Transportation Security Administration site
http://www.tsa.dot.gov/public/display?theme=5&content=090005198008848f

On November 25, 2002, the Homeland Security Act increased the statutory maximum penalty amounts for civil violations of TSA’s security regulations.
Homeland Security Act of 2002, Title XVI, sec. 1602 (Pub. L. 107-296, November 25, 2002), 49 U.S.C. § 46301(a).

http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/FINALSanctionGuidance.doc
is the Enforcement Guidance Sanction Policy listing prohibited items and attitudes as well as fines for varying degrees of hostility or aggravating factors.

The Authority is Administrative Law I believe granted by the Congress within the Act itself. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm in error as I disavow any knowledge of lawyerdom.

Like Mr. Liddy said, "if they wantcha, they gotcha"

To the guys and gals who are in the military and are on military orders I believe that you are not supposed to be pulled aside for extra screeing. I know a couple of years ago when I flew that I was on orders and was told by someone that I would not have to worry about any extra screening due to being on said orders. But then again that was in Jan of 03 so TSA probably figured out that with all the military moving about on leave and stuff why not harass us some.

This may or may not be true, but we'll never find out because TSA policy is not for commoners to see. (Yea, even us peasants with the big guns.) I doubt it's true, but I do swear that being on military orders does seem to intentially get more screening.

Maybe terrorists are trying to pretend to be US servicepersons? Seems doubtful, considering one would need more ID/paperwork and would stand out more.

My brother told me he had a hard time flying home while in uniform. They told him to take off all his brass(class A's). He told them that he was not going to be out of uniform and so on and so. Only after the people in line behind him started booing and catcalling the TSA people, was he turned loose. Then on his way to Fort Lewis from Minneapolis the TSA guy told him to show his tickt and M'ID to the "security only" gate guy and was let right in without standing in line. Go figure.

something i have noticed flying since 9-11

= ok i look like i should be doing something wrong for sure.
but i dont get screened.

while my ladyfriend who makes big $$ and is very straight looking gets the full search. all kinds of people get the extra treatment.

why not me? and why do you see these arabs go right through, all kinds of other sketchy looking people??

simple. -as far as the service guys i am clueless , but i buy it that they are worried you will be an imposter, the extra papers arent as hard to come up with as an excuse to have guns is!!.
but for the rest of us-
how you pay for your ticket. when you pay for your ticket, (i get mine MONTHS in adavance)
and where you are going to and from.
i am always flying from the place i live (SF) to where i am from (NY), and my record speaks for itself. (also your birth state is coded in your SSI)

when they can tell who you are and where you're going , they dont bother you.
we've all get run through the machine when we buy the ticket, the ones that come back with no record need double checking.

i mean most of this will not help anyone, but you frequent fliers , check it out , i bet you'll see the pattern.

probably get checked harder on your way out than home, people who buy last minute tickets get checked more, etc.

ok so I finally flew commercial for the first time post 9/11
(keep in mind I used to work for a major airline on the ramp and witnessed the TRUE security leaks)

I made had an oversight and found my $20 gerber paraframe folder in the pocket of a pair of jeans I had at the bottom of my carry-on bag.. I discovered this at my hotel in Vegas..so MCI missed it.
I then have the pocket knife stolen when I leave Vegas.
Sure it was my fault for not noticing it before I left... but I would think Priority Mail envelopes handy for such oversights would be more effective.
And I was told that if it was over 3" I would have to submit my name for a list??
:cuss:
So much for me ever flying commercial again.
Oh and for those that would suggest checking my bag so I could have sent the knife through. Like I said I used to work for an airline, I'D suggest you never check a bag EVER.. Fedexit or UPS but never check a bag with an airline.period

A bad attitude is inherently American. America is founded on Disobedience. Don't tread on us.

I don't know what they did to Mineta at Manzanar, but he is making all of us pay for it in spades.

I have flown commercial 14 times since 9-11. Neither swmbo or I have ever been put through the mill other than a cursory wand job a couple of times. Had to stick shoes (still on) into some contraption in Vegas once, maybe twice. That scrutiny has gotten less over time. Never ran across any TSA person that was grumpy.

They opened my small carry on pack once maybe twice. I walked through the scanner once with my Leatherman in my pocket (forgot to put in the checked luggage) and it didn't even beep. I really freaked over that because I really like that gadget, and figured it was going to be history.

I have found my checked luggage to have been opened and resealed, but nothing was ever missing.

Just lucky, I guess. We're leaving for Florida next week, so I shoulda kept my big mouth shut, eh? :D

Thanks, cropcirclewalker. Those of us who make a living working for the airlines really appreciate it. Last time I checked, it wasn't the airlines that are causing the problem, but our collective tax dollars at work....
