Took a couple friends shooting today, stopped by wallyworld for some ammo and one of them bought TulAmmo. I'm the one with the gun and since I've never used TulAmmo before I figured why not see it in action.

Results using my Springfield XDm 9mm competition 5.25:

Horrible. Can barely load 12 into my 19rd mags, had problems feeding, had problems ejecting, etc. They all did go bang though and they did destroy that evil paper on cardboard at the range.

Conclusion: Won't be purchasing them again. Advise others not to purchase them unless you know your firearm will eat them up.

tula ammo

hi
the only thing that i would and do put tula ammo through is my ak:D
i dont like shooting steel case ammo out of my pistols. i have a pt92 afs 9mm
and you can get red box federal champion ball ammo at wally world dirt cheap
my 9 loves it, its pretty accurate too

I put 2 boxes through my XD45 tactical a few weeks back. No failures of any kind. everything functioned normally. Loaded all 13 rounds into the clip using the speedloader with no issues whatsoever. Accuracy was almost as good as the winchester white box FMJs. I thought it was going to be iffy, but after that range session I went and bought 2 more boxes.

EDIT: BTW, If I was shooting a 9mm, I would just stick with the federal champion ammo at wal-mart. Can't beat 19.97 a box of 100!!! Unfortunately, the 45 ammo is a lot more money, so sometimes if I want to put a couple hundred rounds through it, 60 bucks is better then 80 bucks.

moose1995

i use winchester white box for my 45,s 36bucks per 100:D:D:D:D
i use magtech personal defense 165gr plus p schp .45auto for home defense:D
23bucks for 20rds 1100fps in a .45auto thats cookin

I got a gift of a box of Wolf steel cased in 30 Carbine. So I went to the range with a friend and 250 rds of reloads and the box of Wolf. My 3 Carbines ran flawlessly on the reloads and then we tried the Wolf. It did not function well in any of them. Lots of FTF, FTE stovepipes, and the like. Only shot most of the 50 rounds and will not try it again.:banghead: Most of the wolf runs great in my 223. and 7.62X39--X64 firearms so what is up?? I now will always give the steel cased stuff a lot of scrutiny up front before spending a lot of cash on it. It is said that the Tula and Wolf are basically identical so it appears to be buyer beware especially with the steel cased stuff.:scrutiny:

I use Tula in my AR-15s. Even after 3000+ rounds, I've experienced absolutely no problems.

It's more than $100 cheaper than LC Brass ammo (in cases of 1000)...

I shoot Tula in my Glock and my M4 and have never had an issue.
The 9mm happens to be my prefered practise ammo.

I've used some of the 40 and some 9 in my Rugers, no problems of any kind. Off that you could only 12 in a 19 round mag, don't see what this would be a problem.

Other that, how's someone supposed to know it will or won't work in the gun unless they buy some??? perplexing...

I don't shoot them in my pistols anymore, just shot a box of each to try them. Decided since I reload, the little extra cost of the Winchester and Federal were worth it for the brass.

I do on occasion blow through several in my AR though. Have had two or three under powered, not sending the bolt back far enough to catch another round.

I use TulAmmo. Most of it being 7.62x39 through AKs and SKSs. Absolutely no problems there. I have ran the 9mm through Glocks and Sigs with no problems besides a few FTEs out of the Sig. Not really surprising on that simply bc they don't usually eject any steel case ammo well. The Sigs are terrible with Monarch steel. Overall I'm happy with it considering what it costs, just for something to go bang. Never have I had a problem concerning the magazine capacity with Tulammo. Could be a combination of larger than normal rim diameter of the round along with magazine with tight tolerance. When reloading I've noticed serbian brass has this problem, discovered it when it took a good bit of force to go into the shellholder.

Who wants a gun that can't function with certain brands of ammo?:scrutiny:
While some brands and loads are more accurate than the cheap stuff, I wouldn't want to own any firearm that fails to function with a wide range of ammunition brands. If the SHTF really does happen, you might find ammunition brands limited...so good luck with your gun that only works with premium ammo.

I shoot thousands of rounds of .380, 9x19, .40, .45 every year, 98% of it is the cheapest ammo I can find....meaning Monarch, Tula, Wolf and CCI Blazer.
I've run these through Browning Hi Powers, Glocks, Star, Kahr, Ruger, Sigs, Beretta and other quality handguns....if it won't run with the cheap stuff I blame the gun, not the ammo.

In my Colt AR I've run Wolf .223 exclusively...... with zero problems in 7,500 rounds.

Tula is good to go in my pistols and my AR/AK rifles. Never had a problem in any of them. My match 1911 is about the only gun I don't run it in actually.

I bought one box of Herter's brand .223 at Cabela's just to try it. It's accurate enough in my Mini-14, and didn't seem excessively dirty, but most rounds failed to eject hard enough to load the next round. Some of them even failed to clear the ejection port. It looks like it would be fine for a bolt action, it's just loaded a little too light. I also sometimes shoot Wolf .30 Carbine in my Ruger Blackhawk and it works fine for that application; I haven't tried it in a M1 carbine.

BTW, the .223 steel cases are reloadable. They should never need trimming, but the necks will probably split pretty quickly from work hardening, and not worth the effort to anneal them.

Agree re: Wolf on the 30 carbine - plugs up the gas piston with many FTE FTF's as a result. OK in the Kimber 45 but I only use it in the snow or conditions when I can't easily locate brass.

Diesel, I have some of the magtech 165 grn +p also. They shoot good, but I have decided not to use them for home defense. Reason why? They give off a hell of a muzzle flash. I don't want to be blinded after firing my first shot, if its a low light situation. As far as I am concerned, I have several other hollow points for home defense that seem like they'd be the better option.

Dogtown Tom, every ammo I have used has functioned flawlessly in my XD. I don't think its his gun. My guess, and of course this is just a guess, is that the Tulammo he had may have been either exposed to moisture, or the cases may have been tumbled in brand new media. I have seen this before, where the steel cases have a rough enough texture that they will rub against eachother like sandpaper. And the finish on Tulammo cases certainly suggests that they may use either some sort of sandblast or other coarse media to clean the steel cases.

EDIT: This may also explain why he couldn't reach full capacity. If the cases weren't sliding against each other well, we all know the last few cases in a mag are hard to load. Now imagine they weren't smooth and trying to slide them in there.

Certain guns don't like certain ammo? Shocker.

Yeah, seems some think all ammo should work in all guns. And while that's probably the case, it's not. Find what works and run with it.

It has to be the coating on the casings...

I'm just glad I didn't buy 5000 of the WPA rounds when I was thinking about it a couple weeks ago. Same factory, though I think they use a different coating.

I'll just stick with my reloads.

Just a thought for an experiment, try running Brown bear. BB comes in both Lacquer and what you had -which was Polymer (TulAmmo dropped the lacquer, unfortunately) coated steel.
