tumbling NU-FINISH & primers

"I observe that a lot of folks who tumble their brass add NU-FINISH and/or mineral spirits to the tumbling media...it seems to me that the trace of NU-FINISH/mineral spirits in the primer pockets might contaminate the NEW primer that you insert."

IF that were true "a lot of folks" wouldn't be doing it.

With pistol, I have deprimed first and tumbled first. I use Nu-Finish, because my Meguires Gold car polish was too expensive.
I don't use mineral spirits as I "pre-wash" my range pick-ups outdoors. This puts "clean" cases into my press or my tumbler, whichever I do first. Little to no dust.

It's pretty hard to "de-fuse" a primer. Try it, then smack it with a hammer; be sure to wear eye protection.

I'm one of those guys who have never cleaned a primer pocket. I tumble with NuFinish and then deprime during the reloading process and have never had a failure in the thousands of reloads that I've shot that could attributed to a primer pocket not being cleaned.
This has been my experience too, never had any problems when using Nu Finish. To the OP, you've had several people with years of experience tell you the same thing, are you seeing a pattern emerge?

I've accidentally dropped primers into the cats water dish, picked them out, let them dry for a few days then used them.

No misfires.
Part of me wants to know how you managed to get live primers in the cat's water dish, the other part says to leave it alone. BTW, if you're trying to blow up your wife's cat you'll need something larger than a primer.

Hopefully the cat's litter box is not close to your press....I dont think you will want to fish any primers out of it and let them sit for several days. :)

At one time we had a water and food dish at the edge of the bench on the floor. I accidently brushed an open box of primers off the bench and they ended up in the water dish.

And NO, there is not a litter box near..
