turning 18 soon

I am turning 18 soon and am preparing to give myself gifts that express my
2nd amendment rights. So far they are as follows

- a rem 870 express, mostly for self defense

- a marlin 22 lever action for varmints and cheap shooting

- a Russian made sks shtf gun

- rem 700 or 770 or savage equivilant for hunting large game



Im almost 100% set on the 870, just not sure which model

What are your opinions on my choices?

Where is a good place to price them out?

For the 870, I would check the used racks in your area before "settling" on an express. A used Wingmaster in good shape would be a great choice, no plastic parts and better finish. You have to try to wear out an 870 and it might take a couple of generations to do so, so the used thing is not a big deal.

I was set on the 870 express until I found out about the Bennelli Nova. For about $40 more, you can have much more of a gun, at least in my opinion.

I'll second the used Wingmaster suggestion. It'll make for a nice "first gun" that you'll never feel the need to upgrade. I'd also recommend a used Rem 700 or Ruger 77 over a new 770. The SKS and 22 levergun are great choices as well. You can hit up local pawn and gun shops. Keep an eye on the for sale section here and try to find something local. Gun Shows can be good, try to buy from individuals rather than dealers.
