I have two handguns I really like.

The M&P .40 M2.0 Compact 4"
(This is my new preferred carry)

LCP Gen 2 .380
(Always)

When the .40 Compact is to large I just can't seem to arrive at a happy medium.
My former .45 Shield isn't that much smaller and has half the capacity.

I have a Ruger EC9S but it currently has an issue (remains to be seen if it needs to return to the mother ship) and so far we have not really meshed.

The P365 seems.ideal IF Sig can ever make it reliable. Right now I wouldn't own one on a bet.

Any thoughts on the tweener to fill the nitch? Maybe I'm overthinking things and should just leave the house with the LCP alone when the .40 Compact is to large?
.

What about a 9mm double stack in the subcompact size. Maybe a G26 or VP9sk sized gun.

I haven't been to the range much lately, but I'm now past the 1k round mark for my P365 and I haven't had my first glitch yet. My reloads that somehow caused a mystery malfunction with a new Walther CCP (seized slide) work wonderfully from my P365. The only JHPs I've put through mine so far are 124gr HSTs and 124gr bonded Golden sabers, all perfect.

My M&P40c (first gen) has been converted to 357Sig using a Storm Lake barrel. When using a flat magazine base plate, it conceals well. The aftermarket aluminum base plates that protrude from the bottom of the grip really locks those 2 fingers in, allowing a shooter to send off 11 rounds of the hottest of 357Sigs out there with ease (I'm using Underwood 125gr Gold Dots).

I also have an M&P9c 2.0 but I prefer to carry it in an OWB holster on the colder days when a jacket isn't out-of-place. The stippling is akin to coarse sand paper and could probably be used as such.

My M&P40c (first gen) ...
In spite of all the whining from folks living in the Glock world for S&W to introduce a G19 sized M&P, which they eventually did, I've always thought the original M&P (not the revolvers) were the better sized guns. The G19 size, while useful, is a tweener size - not really full size, but not really a compact concealment gun.

I think the M&P full size is a better duty size gun than either the G17 or G19, and the original M&P Compact (not the 2.0 Compact) is a better concealment gun than the G19 and better shooter than the G26.

I kind of think the P365 is perfect but the guy that made it 2000 rounds then it just decides it doesn't like his Carry Ammo anymore has me spooked.

I like G19/G23 size guns for the "Big Gun".
I like LCP size guns for the "Lil Gun".

The problem is what goes between.

A Shield or 43/43X would fit nicely in the tweener spot. The 9/40 Shield is a bit smaller than the 45 Shield albeit not much. I carry AIWB most of the time and my Shield in 9mm conceals much better/easier than my 2.0 Compact, which I really feel like I need a sweatshirt or jacket to carry comfortably. 8 or 9 rounds of 9mm is a step down from your Compact but offers quite a bit more punch than 7 rounds of 380 out of a 2.75" barrel. Like you, I wouldn't really trust a 365 at this point.

I'm the guy who's P365 failed after 2000 rounds. Whether I carry it again or Sig gets it right is to be determined. Right now I'm pocket carrying a Shield 2.0 with the Magguts magazine extension installed. The extension adds very little to the length of the grip and converts the 7 round magazine to a 9 round magazine, and the 8 round magazine to 10 rounds. I'm comfortable with total capacity of 10 or 11 rounds, and it may be what you're looking for.

What part failed?

I was getting light primer strikes after 2000 rounds. I pasted a list of what they did below. I bought a second P365 as a back up, and that one is in for repair as it won't feed hollow point ammo reliably, including HST, Gold Dots and Cor Bon DPX. It's frustrating, but I'm sure they'll get it right.

~ Ultra-sonic cleaning
~ Detailed inspection
~ Replaced:
~ striker
~ striker housing
~ striker spring
~ recoil spring assembly
~ front sight
~ magazines
~ Function tested/fired
~ Verified accuracy with new front sight
~ Verified cycle of operations
~ Had no malfunctions or failures

2500+ rounds through my P365 now, almost all JHP's. One FTE that could have been the gun or could have been my reload.
I do not own a more reliable handgun. Of course it is possible every one of the next 2500 will jam, or the gun will break with each round but I doubt it.
Everyone needs to make there own choice for EDC and there are more options at better prices than ever before.

Good to hear. I'm hoping to make it to the range tomorrow to test the one I already got back.

Hmm. Something like a Ruger SR9c is pretty small but not LCP small.

I'd prefer it to a 365, but I dont like itty bitty guns.

Shield 9/40 and EC9S/LC9S are just a hair thin for me. I can shoot standard velocity 185's out of the Shield .45 faster and more accurately. That might change with some grip changes. Don't know. I don't really find the .45 Shield that much easier to conceal IWB. Likely because it's height is only 0.12" shorter with flush plate.

Maybe I just need to try some other holsters.

What I really want is:
10 Rounds
9mm
G26 Height (Roughly 4.2")
P365 Thickness (Roughly 1.0")
3.5" Barrel

To bad it doesn't exist.
Right now the P365 is the closest game in town.

How about something like the Sig 938? I rented one at the range and was surprised at how nice it shot. Very accurate, nice trigger, and recoil wasn't bad for a 9mm.

For me the downside was the external safety. I've always trained on revolvers and Glocks, didn't want to complicate matters at this point with having to remember to flick the safety off.

What about the new Ruger Security 9 compact?

If not the P365 (and I can understand your concerns about that particular model); what about a Glock G43X? It's 9mm., has your 10 round mag capacity, and it's just a little bit taller and wider (the barrel is actually just a little shorter at 3.41"), than your specs?

Diamond back DB9. It is a little bigger than my LCP but considerably smaller than any compact. It is a single stack 6+1 but packs much more punch than my LCP with a very minimal size and weight penalty.

My DB9 has pretty much replaced my LCP for carry. For dress pants I carry my P32. For a bit larger I carry the DB9.

I have read many positive reports of the SIG P365. But I have also read more than the usual number of problem reports. The first gen DB9 had a very simular track record. By the time they came out with the Gen 3 I was comfortable enough to fork over the cash to try one out... mine has been completely reliable for me. Maybe there is a P365 Gen 2 in my future?

Okay, you talked me into it. I bought a Sig P365 with an April build today No photos, I haven't even cleaned the shipping oil out of it yet.
