Anyone know the twist rate for this Remington?
I have never loaded 100+ gr bullets in this one before. A gun shop commando told me it was like 9.25 or 9.5 to 1.
I figured 10 to 1 most likely, maybe 9 to 1.

I have some 105gr A-max's that are marked for 9:1 barrels.
Has anyone used these on deer-sized game? They are ballistic tip match bullets IIRC.
Any pet loads?

Thanks,

My old Speer manual says 1 in 9". Be advised that those barrels were button rifled and the button drive can slip or torque, so there is some tolerance in the final twist rate. Only way to know if they work is to shoot them.

A-Max is a target bullet with a thin jacket. It is usually recommended not to hunt game with them because expansion is unpredictable. But some people do it anyway, being impressed by a quarter inch smaller group off a benchrest. I dunno, I am not a hunter.

Thanks for the info. Jim, I thought they were V-Max's when I picked em up. Think I'll get something in the 90-95 range that is a game bullet. This is a "meat rifle" for when I'm pretty close to the barn...lol.

Thanks,

Please avoid the 105 max, get the hornady 75gr hp for that 788. I use them and they are the ticket. I haven't checked the twist, but the 100gr factory hornady shot plenty accurate, and the smaller hornady bullets only got better. The nosler 58gr wasn't worth the primer used to fire it- accuracy wise, but it did print 1-2moa, compared to the sub moa from the 75gr hornady hp bullets.
