I have two Remington 700's.

One is an older model CDL 30-06 from the 70's. The other is a little newer model bdl 25-06.

I am wanting to switch out the triggers with timney triggers. Will the same Timney trigger work in both?

The older rifle has the safety and trigger where you have to put it on fire to open the bolt. Many years back it went through a period where it would fire when you clicked on the safety. It hasn't acted up for many years.

The newer model 25-06 is made so that you can open the bolt with the safety on.

Will the Timney trigger make the old gun work like the new one?

Remington Triggers

The triggers you have can be adjusted, and the bolt lock can be converted where you can open the bolt without taking the safety off. Look at the safety side of the trigger the flat bar that goes into the action and locks the bolt can be shortned so it doesn't lock the bolt closed. Both triggers need to be completly washed. Get you a can of break cleaner at auto parts store and give them a cleaning. Work the safety and trigger while spraying them. Some older models had a preserative on them that would get gummy over time. It looks like brown varnish clean it all off. They wouldn't work right in cold weather, could have been your problem. Wipe them clean and put a drop of oil on the moving parts. As far as adjusting the trigger screw the bottom front screw out a little at a time and check the trigger pull, keep doing this until you get it set to your liking. Then you need to reseal the screw so it doesn't move, fingernail polish works good.

The Timney will work on both rifles, and is designed to allow the bolt to open with the safety on. Even after adjusting the factory triggers, the Timney is a much better trigger. I have replaced all my 700s triggers with Timneys.

++1 ^^^^^^^^^ I changed out a trigger on my old Rem. 788 .223, man what a difference that trigger made! I was able to shoot it really well, just got used to the trigger. I changed it out and put the Timney in, its set @ 36 oz's, now the last time I shot it @ 100 yds, .336 MOA. Yes, change the triggers out and enjoy finer shooting!

I put a 3 stage Jewel in one of my Rems, and it's been real consistent and as light as a feather and breaks like glass! But Timmy's are an excellent trigger too. I have a timmy in a 700 SPS in 7mm RM, and one in an older ADL .270 Win. and just love them!
