(6/06/03 - HUMBLE) — Four teens have been arrested, with a large cache of stolen weapons. Police released information about the discovery Friday afternoon.
An arsenal of weapons was found in a teenager's bedroom in Humble. On Friday authorities recovered 16 guns in all -- 10 rifles and shotguns, and six handguns. They also discovered 2500 rounds of ammunition.
Investigators believe four teenagers stole the guns from a Harris County home less than two weeks ago.
Sgt. Wally Wieghat said, "We wanted to get them off the street as quickly as we could."
Constables say the teens intended to sell the weapons to gangs. They believe the suspects ground the serial numbers off the weapons and modified them to do the most damage possible.
"The way they were cutting the stocks off, modifying the weapons… They were grinding the serial numbers off one of the pistols. It just looks like they probably knew what they were doing and had been doing it possibly for a while," surmised Sgt. Wieghat.
The four suspects would face federal felony charges, except for the fact they are all juveniles. They range in age from 15 to 17. One suspect is a girl.
Investigators tell Eyewitness News that the girl actually confessed to this caper. They say they had been watching these teenagers for some time and they actually found the weapons in a bedroom and the attic in the girl's home.
