Home invasion suspect killed; found next day

By Jaime Napoli

The body of a male was found outside the gate of the home at 10407 Kirkshire in the Sagemont Park subdivision Tuesday, Feb. 24, about 8:15 a.m.

According to Houston Police Department officials, he is thought to be one of four suspects in an attempted home invasion at 10411 Kirklane Monday, Feb. 23, about 10:30 p.m.

Officials reported that there was an exchange of gunfire between the homeowner and the suspects outside the Kirklane home.

Some of the bullets hit Orie Harder’s home across the street. After hearing the gunshots, Harder, 82, made sure his wife and granddaughter, who were asleep in the room where a bullet entered, had not been injured. Then, he checked the home and found bullet holes in the front door, a back window and a garage window. Police were called to the scene that night by a neighbor who heard the gunshots, but officers were unable to find the suspects. The next morning, the body was discovered about a block away and, police were called again.

The dead male had gunshot wounds to the hand and chest from the incident the previous night, officials said. He died from his wounds while he was running from the scene.

Police are still trying to determine if he was shot by the homeowner or by one of his fellow suspects during the exchange.

If police find that the homeowner is responsible, he will most likely face a Harris County grand jury, according to officials.

At press time, the dead man’s identity was still unknown, but officials believe he was in his 20s.

The other three suspects were seen leaving the Kirklane residence in a late-model turquoise Dodge Durango with step-up rails and something hanging from the rear-view mirror.

I would hope that the GJ would no-bill this one. A Shootout in Suburbia?
