"Do you know what made it so it wasn't intimidating?"

What would the cops have done if he hadn't complied? The same thing that nice little old lady did.

SHOT HIM!

If you've broken into...

my house and are not completely and instantly complying with my every command then I am in fear of the safety for myself and my loved ones. Being is said fear I will continue shooting until you are no longer a threat. If you're still on your feet, you're still a threat. If you don't want to be shot, don't break into my house or if you do...comply completely and immediately. Pretty simple really.

Funniest video I've watched in a long time. I wonder how I can go about sending granny a reload.

"Holy smokes!"

The story was also reported here in Los Angeles. The anchor, Harold Greene, seems to be surprised that someone would defend themselves and their loved ones.

It was also reported in another segment (Ann Martin[?], 6:00 PM news, 11/11/05) that her .38 was taken by the police for the investigation. At that time I was thinking, "Great, how is she going to protect herself and her family now?" It was finally reported that she has a "9mm semiautomatic" as a BUG. More justification for the rules of two...or three. :D

My mind boggles since there wasn't any anti spin to the segment...in L.A. :scrutiny:

I can't believe that 911 operator is telling them to stop shooting. She has no idea what's going on. Duh.

I'm really afraid for her.

The second time she shot, the intruder was already outside the house on the front lawn.

She's been making some comments (particularly about intentionally shooting to wound) that could eventually get her in trouble.

I wish she had been a lot more careful about talking on tape & camera...

My comment is this: Why should anyone ever have to watch what they say when they are protecting themselves from some goblin who broke into their house? In my opinion, the minute you entered my house, you should be in danger of losing your life until you are out of my sight. If you are not out of my sight, you better comply or possibly die. What has happened to America when goblins have any right to any mercy when they instigated the matter. Do not come in my house. Nobody has to worry about anything if you don't come in in the first place. Come in my home, you have checked the Constitution at the door. period. I have no patience nor compassion for a miscreant of that genetic make up.
If no quarter was the rule of the day, there would be less crime.

+1.
If you you want to show mercy to the scum that just broke into your home, and is putting your life in danger, then that's your business. No one should be forced to do so by law, or by fear of lawsuit.

lucky she's in TX

If she would have been in Missouri and most of the other states, she would be in jail now waiting to go to court. She shot the guy through the door for one. She shot again as he was fleeling. She admitted she was not intimidated and she said she shot to maime. In most places that alone would have put you away. In Most states you have to have fear for your life. I am glad that she is safe from harm!!! Go Grandma.

Because people on juries don't all think like you do. ;)

While the comments..

about taking care in talking on camera, shooting to wound, and shooting at him outside the house are spot on to the reality of the times we live in....it's a sad state of affairs that such comments are based on reality.

Some criminally minded young dinkus, while running from the police after abandoning an apparently stolen vehicle, breaks into the home of a woman of no great stature or strength. It should be a reality that at this point it's "Game On" and the ONLY rule is that Granny and her loved ones come out of it unscathed. As far as her giddiness on camera...she just survived a potentially deadly encounter, let her reveal in her survivorship with no fear of legal entanglements. Such would be true in a truely great society.

I am happy that she and her family are alright from this terrible experience. They are lucky to live in a state, where one has the right to protect one's family without fear of incrimination or a lawsuit from the criminal's family. In far too many states, the right to self-protection has been diluted by lawyers, polticians, and judges who want to make the criminals the victums.

In a followup interview, she said that she had fired in the air to try to alert police and summon help. Neighbors were nonplussed about her shooting in the air.

I was annoyed at the dispatcher telling her to stop shooting, as well, but the tape was a composite, with a LOT of tape missing. The granddaughter had told the dispatcher that the guy was at that point on the ground. The dispatcher could hear the granny berating the intruder angrily. Upon hearing the shot in the air, it could easily be assumed that she had just decided to shoot the guy out of anger. In fact, someone really did kind of need to tell her to stop shooting. Nicely, though: "Uh, ma'am? That'll be fine, thanks. You mind puttin' that thing away for a bit?" :)

From her statements on ABC this morning, this could have gone the other way very easily. She said that the BG was trying to get her gun from her, and that sometime after this, she shot him in the leg, INTENTIONALLY. She should have not taken the chance at that time, she should have done what she said she was taught to do...shot into the torso, to stop the advancing attacker.

Like JohnKSa said, I am afraid for this woman.

It could be said that she was not afraid for her life, but that she just wanted to shoot someone, since she "decided" to shoot him in the leg...with Charlie Gibson giving hearty approval.

Then she decided to shoot at him while he posed no danger to her or her family...While he was trying to escape.

I pray that fellowTexans will stand up for her, but I know that there are many who will not be very kindly in this instance.

I laughed and laughed then heard:

--police took her .38 so her brother or some such gave her a .357 mag. She said next time she'll take the guys leg off.

--later in same interview with Hannity she said that if the guy came out of the closet with a knife in his hand she'd shoot him in the face.

Me thinks the lady is a warrior. :D

I can't believe there is criticism of this woman!

You break in a house and pose a danger to the owner, If they decide to break your fingers or shoot you, it should be allowed AND encouraged. This cry for "oh he was getting away she shouldn't have shot him is BS!"
Love the criminal=embolden them and create more crime.

I said that she should not have shot him in the leg! She should have aimed higher.

When you shoot at someone who is trying to escape, they no longer pose a threat to you, unless they are covering their escape with gunfire.

I understand the mindset of wanting to continue shooting (when they are running) but this comes from the anger from being taken advantage of:fire: , not from the position of being in control of the situation:neener: .

If the wrong jury were to sit in judgement in a case against her, they might find a liability with her.

I DO NOT FIND HER ACTIONS WRONG! I AM JUST MAKING THE POINT OF THE LIBERALS IN THE STATE!

I personally feel that it SHOULD be within a homeowner's right to chase them down the street, firing the whole time.
