I picked up my TX22 Saturday and got out to shoot it today . I ran 10 different types of.22 ammunition through it today and a little over 100 rounds . I had 2 jams on the first mag . I think I caused it by how I loaded it . The rounds don’t stack even on each other , but I didn’t have any more failures after the first magazine and it jammed on the second and third or fourth round on that magazine . I wasn’t happy with the accuracy of it . The sights are not very good IMO , I am going to change them out and hope for better accuracy . A friend of mine has the competition model and I shot his a lot more accurately than mine . It disassembles pretty easy , but don’t follow the instructions in the manual on disassembly . Reassemble on mine has a quirk in it . When I put the slide back on the frame and pull it to the rear , the barrel and guide rod assembly stay extended out of the slide until I pull the trigger .

Things that I like about it are the feel of it in my hand and it has a pretty good trigger , with a short reset . I double tapped it twice the trigger is so light and the reset is so short . After a little over 100 rounds through it , it was hardly dirty .

I called Taurus asking about the problem reassembling my pistol . They want it back to check it . They said that it shouldn’t do that . I hate having to send it back , but customer service was very good . I also told them about the bad accuracy that I was having . I think the problem is going to be the barrel in both problems . They said they have a 4 week turnaround now .

Interesting events. Mine has been flawless and gobbled up everything i fed it. Hopefully Taurus does ya good.

It really is a joy to shoot. Glad I got one.

Double stack .22's. the TZ22 and Sig P322 for example, need to be loaded properly to function. Too many people (I was one) think "Pull down the button and dropped them in". Guarantee you a malfunction. Just load one at a time using a loader or by hand and you will have the proper stacking needed. Two TTX22's and a P322 giving trouble free shooting now. The P322 did have to go back to the factory for a weak hammer spring, but since then all three guns work fine. You still have to contend with ammunition problems but that's not the gun.

I messed around with it today and it is now reassembling correctly . The disassembly latch is going back up now when I put the slide back on the frame and the barrel and recoil assembly go back in place without having to pull the trigger or mess with the disassembly latch . I must have knocked off a burr on the barrel , or the disassembly latch messing with it . Now to get it shooting more accurately . I hope they will send me another barrel if I send them mine and not have to return the pistol and try that first .

I've got both the competition model and standard, had a no-safety version of standard model too, but traded it off last week. All 3 have been as accurate as I'd expected them to be, even though I'm not a big fan of the sights either. I shot the competition model with open sights better too...but I chalked that up to barrel length/sight radius (has an optic now, anyway) and weight. They should all be capable of reasonable accuracy, but they're no target pistol.

I took it back out today and did some shooting and to see if the sight adjustment screws were moving under recoil . The elevation screw was moving . I adjusted some on the windage adjustment screw , but it didn’t look like it was doing anything . The bore looks like it wasn’t machined well . I wish someone made a aftermarket barrel for it . It doesn’t look like this bargain pistol is going to be such a bargain . I moved the target in some today and that didn’t improve accuracy much . I promise you I don’t shoot this bad at 15 yards , bench rested . I ran 10 different types of ammunition through it Sunday at 25 yards . I ran 4 of the best groupings and some ELEY target ammo through it today . I don’t know if I should try some Tanderkoss sights on it , or just send it back and then sell it , if it doesn’t improve after it goes back . EDC0C950-6D40-4E12-8EBE-0FB7A9DA3547.jpeg

Did you purchase this gun new or 2nd hand?
Did you scrub the barrel prior to shooting it?
Does it seem to be getting progressively worse?

There's plenty of horror stories of TX barrels leading, though I've not experienced it myself. Worth taking a look at anyway.

I bought it new just last Saturday . I cleaned the barrel before I shot it the first time . The barrel doesn’t look like it gets totally clean . It doesn’t seem like it is getting any worse , but I clean the barrel every time that I have shot it so far . I heard about the elevation not holding and the screw moving . Mine moves also . I marked it today and saw that it was moving . The sights are supposed to be click sights , but I can not feel any click in the elevation or the windage when I adjust them .

red rick, just curious…why did you decide on a taurus tx22, what other 22lr pistols do you have or did you consider?

mine is a ruger sr22, which i’m very pleased with.

I have S&W 17 , but I wanted something lighter and more like a service pistol for when I run my dogs on my property . I wanted a .22 , because of lower noise to my ears in case I have to shoot something . I did consider the Ruger and S&W , but I read so many good reviews on the Taurus that I went with it . I didn’t see the bad reports on the barrel and sights until I started looking for reasons for my bad groups .

Just put another couple of hundred rounds through both of mine this afternoon. Well, some family members shot them more than I did. Steel plates at 10 and 15 yards, misses are operator error. Hopefully Taurus will send you a new barrel.

They want me to send them the pistol . It differently needs a new rear sight . I can see the adjustment screw move after shooting just 5 rounds , but I don’t think that is the only reason for the open groups . I am thinking about selling it at a loss , with full disclosure and moving on . I don’t feel like the hassle of sending it back . I raised the rear sight today and wedged some cardboard into the gap to keep it from lowering . I am going to try that out one day this week .

TX22s ( full size) have a BAD rear sight. I put a set of fiber optics on mine, and that helps a lot. I got them on ebay. They were for a Glock, and Taurus G3, and the TX22. Easy to install and makes shooting fun. They were $ 12.00 or thier about, on E-bay
Those rear TX22 rear sights are junk.
If you send it back to Taurus, they are just going to put the sam junk sight back on it.

How many years has the Taurus TX22 been on the market??? Still shipping crappy barrels, very crappy sights, a recoil assembly that will chew the front of your slide until it cracks or breaks off. The gun was a turd from day one and years later its still a turd. What a great gun company.

My two have good barrels, decent sights, and the slides are not "chewed" after two thousand rounds through one and over three thousand in the other. They work with suppressor ammunition while other .22 semi-automatics don't. I think I detect Taurus bashing for it's own sake. Did you ever own a TX22?

My Taurus was three months old, had about 4500 rds fired when the front of the slide cracked caused by the recoil spring assembly which gauged away the aluminum where it rode in the front of the slide. It also had a lot of chatter marks in the barrel. Was sent to Taurus with a explanation of the problems. After 12 WEEKS it was returned. Taurus replaced the slide, did nothing about the recoil assembly or the chattered barrel. The description from Taurus was replaced slide & fired 32 rds. Upon inspection the newly replaced slide already had gauge marks from the non replaced recoil assembly. I flushed the turd down the toilet the day it came back from Taurus.

I spent thirty bucks on a steel recoil assembly for mine because of this issue. I figure thirty bucks is a small price to pay, love everything else about the gun.

I installed the rear sight this week and tried out the new barrel today . It grouped a lot better . It like Federal AutoMatch the best that I tried today . I have been cleaning both barrels this week they both came to me all fouled up for new barrels . I liked how the replacement barrel was shooting so I put the factory barrel back in after all the cleaning that I had done on it and it shot tighter groups also . IMG_1920.jpeg IMG_1922.jpeg
