Howdy all.

I am looking at getting a .22 plinker to fill the void in my modest "collection" of pistols. I don't currently own any .22's and the Tupperware offerings don't particularly intrigue me. I started looking for a DA Smitty or Ruger, but they aren't really tugging at the heartstrings, either. I was at a semi-local GS the other day and they had some of the centerfire offerings from Uberti in the case. Really nice guns. Like, really nice. It got me to thinking I might like a SAA clone in my safe. I looked on line and came up with the Stallion.

I'd want the 4.75"bbl with the brass frame. 10 shot cylinder. .22lr or an additional cylinder in .22wmr. I realize that the .22wmr won't get shot much, but I'd like to have it. I do not want the adjustable target sight model. The catalog number is 349877.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the .22's that Uberti offers? I did a quick search but the threads went in multiple directions. So, I'm looking for a better idea on this pistol. Any and all help will be appreciated.

These are nice little sixguns. Uberti has gradually improved their product immensely over the last ten years. I don't have a Stallion but I have an earlier Virginian .22 from the `80 as well as a bunch of their other guns and they are all excellent. Been thinking about a Stallion myself.

I have the stallion 22lr target with 5.5 inch barrel. No problems at all, very accurate. Just don't dry fire it or you'll damage the cylinder.

Thanks all for the replies.

How is the trigger on y'alls guns? Have you put WMR thru it as well? How is that? Fit and finish is good?

My old Virginian is dedicated to .22Mag use. It shoots the 40gr Winchester into 1"@25yds with regularity. Trigger is not bad but the newer guns are probably quite a bit smoother.

Thanks, Craig.

I ordered the Uberti yesterday. It'll be a couple of months before I actually get to use it with the current state of affairs here in NJ. And, I have another pistol waiting for me to get permits. This whole one a month hand gun thing stinks.

Try using .22 WRF the predecessor to the .22WMR if you can find any. Not as much noise and flame and it doesn't destroy as much meat when used for hunting. I bought 2000 rounds before the nonsense.

Just as an FYI, 349877 is a 6-shot revolver. 349883 and 349884 are 10-shot and .22 LR. Any of these appear to be very, very nice though.

Great thread. I too am interested in a single action 22 for a couple of reasons. One, 22lr is all I shoot outside of hunting season and occasional obligatory practice with the CCW. Two, I have never owned a single action revolver. Three, I am looking for a shooter handgun. I am a safe queen hog.

So would a uberti be a good starter pistol to satisfy my plinking?

Are the cylanders interchangeable between the different 22's?

Is maintenance relatively straight forward?

Thanks

Hello Agsalaska.

It would be a great plinker if you are looking for a single action pistol as a plinker. The do make them in a 10 shot as well as a 6 but not in the configuration that I wanted. And they are built to be shooters. The cylinders swap out in less than a minute is my understanding. I believe maintenance to be quite straight forward. Let us know if you decide to grab one.

I put up a pic of the one that I am looking to get. Although I am looking for the slightly shorter barrel.

Mine is the 10shot 22lr target model and is a great plinker. Cleaning the cylinder with 10 holes is a bit of a pain, but overall a quality built, accurate and pretty revolver.

I saw one of these for the first time today on Armslist and was intrigued. Built to be a shooter, huh, what does that mean? Closer to the Rough Rider or Single Six side of things?

I think they mean that they can handle being used a good bit. The full sized guns seem quite nicely built. In addition I find them more visually appealing than the Rugers.

Do you guys mind me asking the typical street price range for these, none of the regular standbys seem to have any in stock?

I'm with ya Tophernj on the single action 22s, seem like a blast!

I think the last one I looked at was $439. Bass Pro Shops had them on sale a couple years ago for $299. Really wish I had grabbed one then.

Apprieciate it. I will if I find one. Since it is a plinker and nothing else I am watching out for a used one. I will post if I get it.

Sounds good. I wish you good luck in your search.

As an aside, I was in the LGS yesterday and the Manager seems to think mine will be showing up soon. That's good and bad as I'm in NJ and have to wait a month between pistol purchases. I'm currently waiting on permits and have one in the wings. GRRRRRRRRRRR...!
