You mean the square shaped marks around the rear of the firing pin? Mine looks like that too. It's from the hammer striking the slide, and from the hammer rubbing against the slide as the slide moves to the rear when the action cycles.
If you are talking about the firing pin channel cut out...
It is normal. It was explained to me to be a stress relief cut out.
If you are talking about the wear around the firing pin channel...
This is also normal but looks like you may have a couple thousand rounds...? It looks well used?
that cut is on every 92/96 that has a safety/decocker. its a stress relief cut. only ones that dont have it is the c/d trigger models because they dont have a safety
Note: At the bottom of every page in this forum, above the quick reply box, is an add box which alternates between adds for 'Appleseed' and "Handgunlaw.us" ... Which shows the slide of a Beretta 92.
Can anyone tell me if they see that add, and what they see in that picture? Because it sure looks to me like the "groove/crack" is visible.
I've discuss the very same thing today at the range with a friend that owns a 98FS. The range's owner has a 98 Target and a 90Two and they all have this "cut". It is normal.
