Hoard of school weapons seized
Holly Marney

A DEADLY cache of more than 300 weapons, including air pistols, swords and an improvised flame-thrower, have been seized from schoolchildren in the past year.

Official figures obtained by The Sunday Times under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that Scotland’s classrooms and playgrounds are rife with weapons ranging from claw hammers and knuckle-dusters to martial arts implements and knives.

In dozens of cases the weapons were used to attack fellow pupils and teachers, who are struggling to cope with rising violence in the classroom.

Knives made up a third of the haul, suggesting that Scotland’s fascination with blades — which are used in about 50 murders each year — begins at a young age.

The figures have raised concerns about the deep-rooted culture that has made Scotland the most violent country in the developed world.

Glasgow alone accounted for 118 weapons seizures. In North Lanarkshire 68 pupils have been expelled over the past year for incidents involving weapons. In just less than half of the cases, the children had attacked another pupil or teacher.

Police groups and teaching unions said they were shocked by the statistics.

Fiona Hyslop, the SNP’s shadow education minister, said parents will be extremely alarmed by the figures.

“Scotland needs to tackle its knife culture in particular and there has to be zero tolerance to this in schools.” she said.

Margaret Mitchell, the Scottish Conservatives’ justice spokeswoman, said schools might have to introduce metal detectors, already commonplace in America, to ensure law-abiding pupils are protected.

“Parents send their children to school in the assumption that they are going to be in a safe environment. This raises very serious concerns about whether this is happening or not.”

This week police revealed they are set to introduce more campus officers in Scotland’s secondary schools. There are currently five in Glasgow and three in north Ayrshire.

gee, I thought banning all the evil guns was supposed to make the kiddies safe and make everyone get along happily?

BWAHAHHAHAHAHA

Wait...Wait I've got one!

“Scotland needs to tackle its pointy stick culture in particular and there has to be zero tolerance to this in schools.”

Yep. They have no problem with the culture of violence....or the culture of hopeless drunken socialism that inspires it...just a fear of pointy sticks and such.

Scotland was Never conquered. Say whatever you will, but they were never conquered. Well, obviously they were conquered by someone, some time, but not the Brits or the Romans.

Really? Then what happened in 1650-1651? In 1647 most of the Scots nobilty split ranks with the Kirk and agreed to fight for Charles I against the English Parliament in an agreement known as the Engagement. Scottish society was torn over the issue. The Kirk openly preached against anyone joining the Engagers' army, whilst the nobles made ready for war. A depleted Scots army invaded England in 1648 only to be defeated by Oliver Cromwell’s New Model Army.
The defeat of the Nobles elevated the radical Presbyterians of the Kirk to power, and, in what became known as the Rule of the Saints, they set about creating their vision of a godly society. Tight social discipline was imposed, adultery was to be punishable by death, nobles were humiliated before Kirk sessions for their moral lapses, and those who had supported the Engagement were excluded from office, parliament and the army.

This triumph, however, was completely over-shadowed by a cataclysmic event - the execution of Charles I by Cromwell in 1649. The Scottish Parliament was forced to act - Charles, despite all his faults, had been a Scottish Stewart King. They appointed his son, Charles II, as King of Scotland, England and Ireland on condition he accepted the Covenant, which Charles II had no option but to agree to. At last the Scots Kirk had got what it wanted - a covenanted king.

From Cromwell’s point of view his English republic was in danger. He begged the Scots to reconsider - they wouldn't and he invaded. The Scots fought well initially, cornering Cromwell at Dunbar, but, urged on by their ministers (the political commissars of their day), they descended from their commanding position and were massacred. Within a year Scotland was conquered, its parliament was abolished and the Scots were forced into an incorporating union with England. Scotland became an occupied country with Cromwellian citadels imposed on Ayr, Leith, Perth, Inverness and Inverlochy. It was the first time in history that the nation of Scotland had been conquered.

Wait a minute. It is a cache, that has been seized over the past year? Isn't that more like a collection of individual "weapons" (most of which are probably innocuous) rather than a cache. You'd think with the UK's high robbery rate the newspapers could find something scary to get in a lather about without making stuff up.

First they wanted to abolish the gun culture in the UK. Now they want to abolish the knife culture. Maybe they haven't noticed that the symptoms they are so worried about are reflections of their vanishing national culture. Tolerance and diversity are laudable goals, but mixing divergent cultural groups together inevitably results in friction that sometimes manifests itself in violence.

Och aye, the noo... ye dinna have tae worry aboot the knives or the guns - it's the bluidy sporrans ye've got tae watch oot fur! Nae tellin' whit's concealed behind them sporrans... that's why sae many Scots get kilt!

:neener:

Scotland never conquered?

So, it's never been the United Kingdom? No stone under the English throne? No Enlgish occupation? Scots do not speak English? My ancestors did not smash the snot out of the Scots with Cromwell (and then run like hell for the New World when Cromwell went tango uniform at home)? No mocking of the Scots on Monty Python?

You can tell a nation was conquered by the English. They are the ones still around to proclaim they were never conquered!:D
