I was just thinking about the different categories of must have handguns. What's your idea of the ultimate incarnation to you, in each respective category. This has been done before. Just trying to get them all together in one. These categories should cover every application, so you can go off track.

1. Midsized Revolver
2. Service Auto Pistol
3. 1911
4. Hand Cannon
5. Rimfire

6 cap and ball old army replica, Why shoot a single action if not for nostalgia.
7 S@W 642 for the pocket/h@k p2000 40 cal for carry

The pistol's job is ccw, and the pocket auto does that best of all. If I can open carry, I can sling a Carbon 15 ( and I would do so, too). :)

1. Midsized Revolver

I prefer the GP100 over the S&W 686.

2. Service Auto Pistol

Glock 19 or Glock 21 Gen4, depending upon my mood. It used to be the SIG P220, but the Glock trigger is very forgiving as compared to the SIG DA/SA trigger.

4. Hand Cannon

I like the Ruger Alaskan in this role.

5. Rimfire

This is nearly impossible to answer because there are so many great choices. I really like my S&W K18 revolver, but the S&W 617 is also very nice. I really enjoy my Ruger MK III.

6. Single Action Revolver

Freedom Arms in some insane caliber. I do like the Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt and 45 ACP...and the gun is affordable.

7. Pocket/Carry sized gun

Again, there are many great guns. All S&W J-Frames are excluded from the list since they just absolute suck to shoot. SIG P238 and P938 are great, as is the Kahr PM9. I'd likely choose the Kahr PM9 with night sights, though the Glock 42 (and the future 9mm version) may give it some good competition.

Why is that gun pointed at your hand?

that's a huge safety violation, no need for it at all, just to show it off for a pic. If you build sloppy gun habits, someday it will bite you on the butt. Or your "teaching" will have that effect on somebody, count on it.

Ultimate means practical,durable,and reliable to me.

1. Midsized Revolver-------> Ruger GP 100
2. Service Auto Pistol-------->Glock 17/21
3. 1911-----> Colt M45A1 Close Quarter Battle Pistol (CQBP)
4. Hand Cannon------>Mark XIX Desert Eagle in .50
5. Rimfire---->ruger Mark III
6. Single Action Revolver----->Ruger Blackhawk 44 magnum
7. Pocket/Carry sized gun----->Glock 26/30

there is no "must have" revolver, guy. :) I've spent many decades narrowing it down to one belt gun (which is the same as my pocket gun, but shorter on both ends). Practice with the somewhat larger gun, pocket carry the little one. I really don't care if others beat me at the matches. As long as they are cheating by not using real CCW gear, they don't count.
