We were talking about how bad things have gotten, and how scared her daughter is and I said"I think there's 2 things every woman needs,a cell phone and a handgun."
She thought that was rediculous......
I said what do you do if someone breaks into your house or mugs you...she says ,of course"call the police"
I say"and what police station do you live next to?"
She says"what do you mean?"
I say"what do you for the 5 to 10 minutes it takes them to get there?"
She says"I guess I'd take my chances....Or get killed."
I went nuts.......I can't understand having such a low opinion about your own life that you'd rather DIE than protect yourself......I guess she thinks it will just never happen to her ,but EVERYONE thinks that.........especially the one's it happens to....
I know people have a right to not like guns or shooting, but to just give up,I don't get it.
As for her daughter she says she just "hopes" nothing will ever happen....I hope it doesn't either, but if it does,I'll protect me and mine. When the police get there they can make a report.....
I don't know whether it's scary or sad....how some people think..

Some people are just brought up with mindless dependency.

Its amazing how these people can hold jobs, drive cars and pay bills.

Being prepared to defend oneself should be as natural as breathing.

Tony, it's both scary AND sad AND disgusting - and fundamentally wrong somehow. Without going on a rant here, I wonder how so many people got so afraid to get their hands dirty, even in their own defence. So overcivilized, for lack of a better term.

I feel really bad for her kid, but have no problem with someone who does not want to defend themselves. They make the choice of their own free will. Where I get steamed is when they try to force their view on me!
The child has no choice until he/she is old enough to get out of the gun free zone.

Ask her “why†she is “willing†to be an indirect accomplice in the possible injury or death of her daughter?

Helpful: Calmly explaining your viewpoint that a person should stand ready, willing and able to defend themselves with appropriate force. Maybe offering to explain basic gun safety to her daughter in case she ever runs across one unsupervised. Maybe offering to take them to the range some time for better understanding of what firearms really are. Putting a calm, professional face on firearms owners for the uninitiated. Politely pointing out errors in logic.

Not helpful: "Effin' SHEEPLE! HOW DARE YOU DETERMINE FOR YOURSELF WHAT YOU ARE WILLING OR NOT WILLING TO DO TO IN SELF DEFENSE?!?" Going nuts because someone shares an opinion you and I would classify as ignorant or misinformed.

Just a thought.

Some people are more afraid of themselves or what they might do if they owned a gun. They think everyone who owns a gun immediately have urges to stick the barrel in their mouths or go out on a shooting rampage. They think guns are the "devil" which possesses you and causes you to do bad things. :neener: :what:

Anti's have the mentality and fears of children.

"She says"I guess I'd take my chances....Or get killed."

This woman's attitude is common and politically correct. It is also immoral and irresponsible, and she is essentially leaving herself and her child at the mercy of criminals. That makes her a negligent parent, in my view.

Folks need to understand that your average sheeple has such an incredible fear of weapons, especially firearms, that when your friend there made her decision on what she would rather do: take her chances or be prepared, she was weighing rolling the dice on being a victim vs. living with something she will be in constant and palpable fear of: a weapon. For her, it was an easy decision. She doesn't think she'll ever be a victim, that's just a remote possibilty and one she can easily deny and convince herself that it's such an unknown that it's not real. The thought of having a weapon in her house, however, is very real to her. She can grasp that concept and it scares the hell out of her. So she chooses to take her chances on something she can't really imagine ever happening: being a victim, rather than subject herself to the daily and constant toruturing fear of having a gun in the house.

It's that simple.

This is why so many sheeple 'see the light' after an attack. Now being prepared is no longer just a paranoid defense against an attack they are convinced won't ever come, and if it did they couldn't conceive of how horrible it would be. This is also where the 'lay back and don't resist' advice comes from. They really can't grasp the reality of the horror of the actual event, so they figure it's best just to take it.

How many times have you asked a sheeple to take some measure to prepare, like OC spray or something, and get a response along the lines of "Oh, dont worry I'll be fine" or "Nothing is going to happen to me", often in a slightly condescending voice that says 'wow are you paranoid'? This is the ignorance is bliss defense mechanism that a sheeple uses to insulate themselves from their paralyzing fear of weapons and conflict.

Yep, a liberals life is not worth defending.

I had a 2nd A discussion with a tree hugger friend who was actually fair game and would respond with logic instead of emotion. After using all the standard talking points for gun ownership and self defense. It came down to him admitting "my life is not worth defending if it means using a gun to do so" How pathetic.

I laugh when a dangerous situation (real or hypothetical) may arise and friends will look at me seeking protection because they know that I am prepared to defend myself. I'll respond "Sorry, my tools of self defense are to protect myself, and not others who refuse to be prepared"

"my life is not worth defending if it means using a gun to do so"

How about a bat or a knife or a car or a rock or a cop? At what point do these people accept responsibility for themselves? Does the instrument of defense directly relate to the importance of the defender, if so I want some nukes for my family, and a few battleships and bombers. So very sad to have such a low sense of self worth. How many of these "enlightened" people will scream bloody murder when no-one comes to their timely rescue? And then sue the hell out of everybody that they can think of.

Sad, very sad...

Does she also not put a seat belt on her daughter when driving her to school? Oh, I'll just call an ambulance!

"She says"I guess I'd take my chances....Or get killed."

That's actually a pretty good attitude. Keep thinking that, and she might remain calm or at least not in a state of complete panic.

But, it's best said while holding a loaded revolver. The "chances" improve.

Regards.

She says"I guess I'd take my chances....Or get killed."

Hmm, i feel the exact same way, i'll take my chances defending myself with one of my big evil assault revolvers and win, or get killed before the police arrive

Have her read that.

I believe that most all people that have that mentality simply have never experienced an attack, nor known anyone close to them that has.

You cannot convey the feelings you feel when you or someone very close to you has experienced such an event.

It's all about survival of the fittest....this one probably isn't.

protection,life,living

as most of us know these people will not change there opinions..i know someone who is anti gun anti death penalty and they were robbed beaten and left for dead...it took them a long time to recover....sometime after it i asked them have you bought protection for yourself and family. NO..they stated it wont happen gain and the poor person who did it just needed the money more than me...you know what i almost hit them myself...that is the stupidest answer i have heard...and there kids are the same way...this country is getting bad....i see it everyday..i work in ems and i see things getting worse every day....oh well..protect our own and live a good life is all we can do..

The person outdoorman mentions is most definitely NOT one of "the fittest" and it is only a matter of time until they are culled from the herd...

fittest

you are correct on the fittest but the sad thing is between them and the ones who suck off the public nipple there arent many of us normal people out there....

Baaaaaaa!!!!!

Time for some folks to snap out of the "Disney" mode and realize that not all things end happily ever after. It's a rough world out there and we need to take care of ourselves, our neighbors and our community. A good cop knows he's only a component and not the "solution" to community problems. A good citizen knows this and participates by helping out whether it's being a good witness or helping the neighbor until the infantry get there (can't call 'em calvary anymore).

You know this country is infected with leftism when some people's most basic instinct, the one to survive, has been torn out of them.

"She says"I guess I'd take my chances....Or get killed."

Instead of ranting to us, how about learning how to discuss the subject reasonably? If we want to win this battle, we MUST win over the mushy middle. Most people you meet are in this group. They hear the anti line constantly, so that's all they know. So OUR job is to educate them, and ranting doesn't get that job done. She's clearly ignorant. Is that a crime? I see more of a crime in not making a decent effort to educate her. YOU have the information. YOU have the education on this subject. If YOU don't try to educate her, YOU have committed the greater crime.

Part of our job is pretty tough - getting over some childish ideas like:
  • Every person must agree with us or be dismissed as not worthy of our time.
  • If they don't agree the first time we make a point they are a hard corp anti and not worth talking to.
  • If they don't agree after the first conversation they never will. There's no such thing as planting a seed. Everybody must be converted the FIRST time we talk to them.

So in a case like this, how hard is it to see that she has never really thought through what would happen to her and her daughter? Her position may seem insane, but it probably just means that she hasn't really thought about it. So try asking a question:

HER: I'd probably just take my chances.

YOU: What do you think your chances would be? Realistically?

Not in a "Hey you stupid! Can't you see the obvious?" tone. In a thoughtful tone. Get her to think it through by asking questions. "And then what?" is a great one. This is a defining characteristic of liberals and their mushy middle followers - they don't think things through to their logical conclusion.

So help them. Gently and kindly.

Or we will lose.

Ask her “why†she is “willing†to be an indirect accomplice in the possible injury or death of her daughter?
This is a good point of verbal attack - only I'd phrase it something like "And what does your daughter think about her own mother holding her own child in such low regard that she actually opposes doing anything to protect her? In fact, does she even KNOW that her mother values a would-be murderer's life more than the life of her own child?"
