Some of you chimed in on the poll I posted a few months back to help me decide between my great uncle's guns. He passed away back in February, and my aunt needed the money to help with funeral expenses. Here is that thread with some very good responses: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=708518

After thinking about it and saving up, my aunt has received a little extra help and I have BOTH of them.

:D

I'm seriously appreciative of everyone's great input on the model 37. It was likely that I might have passed on it for only the 760. Thanks to all!

Yeah. And the Redfield zoom adjustment seems to be broken. I'm thinking a Leupold VX3 with as low mounts as possible might be the ticket.

Might see how well it shoots first and then decide on the scope.

Nice, looks like a 760BDL with the Basket weave checkering upgrade.
Same year as mine also in .30-06.
1968 was the last year, before going bolt action, the 760 in .30-06 was the FBI choice for their sniper rifle,

Hope you enjoy them both.

The 760 is nice but like previously stated loose the see through mounts. The Ithaca is a find. In my opinion it is the second best pump shotgun ever devised. The first would be the Winchester model 12. Just to get a perspective, check out the Ithaca websight and see what new ones are going for. Your jaw will drop.

Tore down the Ithaca today, degreased and oiled it. What a FINE action! Loads with ease, feeds with little effort, points very well, and nothing at all feels cheap about it. Great craftsmanship.

Brings back memories. My father had an Ithaca 37 (that was his father's) that served as his truck gun for many years.
