Everything you could want, except that ruger doesn't make them anymore...
I hope the new MAX-9 pistols are comparable.

Very much agree. Don't own one but have shot a friend's a few times to garner a lot of respect for it.

I sure love my little Radom P83. It bumps my Shield every now and then. Shield is slimmer but awkwardly longer and taller and fits in fewer randomly chosen holsters. P83 is a work of art... even if only equivalent to the best Warsaw street graffiti. ;)

P83 is safer, tougher, cheaper, and more pocketable than a Shield. And the magazines are easier to carry in abundance although 9x18 is a notch below 9x19 in power. I can carry four P83 mags in about the same space as two to three Shield mags and they are easier to load. Plus if I had to I could also shoot 380 through my P83 or any other 9x18 gun to save my life..I've thought about that many times walking through the doors of Walmarts that sell it. "In case of fire, break, glass!". LoL!

(I wasn't home and didn't have the Radom on me. This is an internet photo.)

Ruger is any gunsnob's worst nightmare.
It's why I own a P89.
I didn't nominate it for my most underrated gun, but it would almost be the runner up to the Radom P83 I did nominate. The OP specified EDC, so the P89 loses. However, I think it's more carry friendly than some people say, more due to dimensions than weight.

Another honorable mention for the Ruger LCP. Granted, only .380 and has some limitations but it certainly fills an EDC need when situations, weather and clothing limit carrying my 9mm's or .40's.

It's an absolute shame those didn't catch on better. I had 3 of those (one in 40) at one point and all were excellent, reliable, and really accurate.

Slightly smaller than a Glock 26, much thinner in the hand, great trigger and that striker with a safety everyone seems to want these days (well not really, but some do). Plus the 17 round mag and spacer worked nicely too.

Oh, and they were very cost effective as well.
