unfortunate series of events

    I bought a handgun through gunbroker.com. Sent my money to the seller. Called my local FFL, that I have delt with a lot he faxed his licence. To the seller, seller ships my firearm on 06/27/06.

    I call my FFL on 07/02/06. Don't get a hold of my FFL but somebody else answers the phone. Ask if my firearm is in yet, tells me he'll call me back. Get a voice mail from them that "Something unfortunate has happen" please call as soon as possible. Call back get the answering machine. "We will be closed until 7/7/06, leave a message"

    I call the next day and talk to the FFL's wife. My FFL has pasted away. She say yes we have your purchase. I haven't even opened the package yet. I need to go through everything. I get the feeling that she has a FFL also by the way she but I'm not sure. She says call me next week.

    I have been calling every day. Still getting the same message on the answering machine. At first I thought worse case scenario was that they would have to ship it back to seller and I would have to find a new local FFL for them to ship to. Now in my mind that is the best case scenario. Now I'm worried that everything in the guys shop is in probate or something along those lines. And it could be months before I get my firearm.

    So has something like this happened to anybody else? What options do I have? If any.

    Well, since her husband died less than a week and a half ago, I don't think I would start freaking out quite yet. Give the greiving widow a chance to get a handle on everything. There's probably messages from you and 1,000 other customers waiting to be attended to.

    Sorry about your situation but I am fairly sure that the last thing on the widow's mind is your gun. Be the nice guy we all know you are and give her a few more weeks to put some of what is left of her life back together.

    Her husband has died and you're calling her repeadedly about your order for over a week now?:banghead:

    There's a special place in hell for people this self-absorbed.

    Wouldn't have this problem if the FFL's business was set up as a corporation.

    You still would if the corporation consisted of the guy who died and his wife. Most FFL corporations are relatively small organizations.

    Give her some time, jeez.

    Well, she called me today. She is going to give it to another local FFL. I wasn't leaving 20 messages a day. I was trying to get a hold of her. When I originally talked with her she told me to call her at the end of the week. Which I did. And left one message. I certainly understand that she has a lot going on.

    Sorry don't feel that way.

    So what is proper time to wait?
    10 days?
    2 weeks?
    a month?
    six months?

    I took, "I have been calling every day.", to mean you had been calleing her every day after making contact, which would have been unforgivably unconscionable behavior.

    As to a how much time to wait, a "decent period" could be a week or 10 days for a small family shop and as much as 30 days for a one person shop where the family wasn't involved in day to day operations.

    It seems the hectec calling was taking place before the poster was notified of the death, and that is quite reasonable.

    I would contact the seller, let him know what is up, that the gun is in limbo
