Unique in 9mm with 124 plated berry's/xtreme or similar?

My favorite in 9mm so far is Power Pistol, though I admit I have not tried a lot of powders in 9mm so far.

Xtreme 115gn RN, Power Pistol 5.5gn, 1.135 COL. Light recoil and accurate.
Win 124gn FMJ, Power Pistol 5.1gn, 1.15 COL.
Bayou coated 124gn TCG, Power Pistol 5.0gn, 1.105 COL.
Bayou coated 124gn TCG, Titegroup 3.7gn, 1.105 COL - 2" 5 shot group at 25 yards.
Xtreme 115gn RN, Autocomp 5.0gn, 1.140 COL.

Hope this helps.

Last nights results. 3" target (I am by no means a good shot). Each target shot 5 times (one flyer on last target with the Shield). Results are good enough for me for a plinking/practice load.

All targets at 7 yards:

9mm 124 gr X-Treme CPRN (Mixed Brass)
Unique 4.6 gr
1.12" OAL

Wow..^^
Yea, if they dont chamber, I'd be out looking to buy a gun that they would chamber in! That'b the only pre requisite too..

Follow up for any interested. I've loaded a few thousand 124 xtreme 124s over 4.6 Unique, have shot a couple matches and a bunch of steel plates in the range. Overall impression is very favorable EXCEPT the brass is dirty and there is soot/crud in the bottom of the brass bucket when I dump them in. Maybe I'll try bumping it to 5.0 grains to see if it cleans up... if not, I'll probably switch to a different powder when my current 3 lbs of Unique is used up.

I'm not a clean freak but if I have a choice I'd prefer cleaner rather than dirtier, all else being equal.

I love Unique. I currently load 124grn Bayou Bullet with 4.5 gr Unique to OAL of 1.12. Runs fine in all of my nines, Glock, CZ, Citadel 1911.

5.0 gr 124 grain RN 1.120, per RC. I will use the same 5.0 and have gone to 5.1- 5.4 with a slightly longer OAL, 1.150-1.165. At the longer OAL, I'm sure you could go to 6 grains if you wanted. (but dont see the need) I've seen a load with 124 grain Hornady XTP with 6.0 grains at 1.125 on these pages described as "Highly accurate" but I would be a little nervous. (and dont see the need) Powders change recipes a little over the years I understand, but old Unique loading data I've seen was fairly hot looking compared to more modern data.

Well, in my search for a good 9mm range load that's cleaner than my (accurate, reliable) 4.6 unique 124 xtreme load, I tried a few options:

5.0 unique 124 xtreme kicks more but not any cleaner than 4.6 unique. Seemed to hit high right.

4.7 Autocomp cases very scorched lots of crud. Obviously wants to be loaded hotter. Accurate though and functioned fine in P226.

4.7 Silhouette. Many malfunctions in both Beretta and SIG, even with intentionally/firmly locked out arms and wrists. Brass barely ejects. Very scorched and dirty cases. Obviously too light. Stinky, too.

4.1 WST similar to two previous. Fewer malfunctions, only one or two. Seemed slightly cleaner but still scorched and dirty. More accurate in beretta than sig.

4.5 WST Next but ran out of time.

4.5 WST still too light. Probably not going to work for me... Lee says 4.7 max and I doubt that will do it.

5.1 Autocomp: Excellent load, very accurate, feels good, functions flawlessly, cases still scorched/dirty but better than 4.7. Consider using for outdoors or stop worrying about dirty cases.

4.7 Autocomp cases very scorched lots of crud.
If Auto Comp was mexican, it's name would be El Scorcho.

I see this a lot with AutoComp too. Thing is, most of the time they're somewhat accurate which makes me think twice about wanting to go back and stuff more powder into the next batch.

Following are the loads I have for Xtreme 124gr plated. For CP RN my COL is 1.145"-1.15" and for CP HP my COL is 1.091"-1.1".

700-X 4.2gr.
AutoComp 5.4gr.
Bullseye 4.2gr.
Unique 4.9gr.

I am still working up a load using Longshot and will probably have a shoot-off between all my X-Treme 9mm powders to rank them once I have completed my Longshot workup.

What source for this data please?

This is from the Hodgdon site, showing a max of 5.4gr:

124 GR. BERB HBRN TP
Winchester AutoComp .356" 1.150" 4.8 1,020 28,400 PSI 5.4 1,120 32,900 PSI

Here are my actual range testing results at 10 and 15yds, also showing my detail load data.

many thanks. Note that that data is for hollow based bullets. which may make a difference in pressure, etc.

That is correct. I was very careful with this workup since I know there was a difference in available volume due to the hollow based bullet.

I initially started with 4.8/4.9/5.0/5.1
Then loads using 4.9/5.0/5.1/5.2/5.3/5.4
Next loads were 5.2/5.3/5.4

Then only was I able to decide on 5.4gr. I think I exercised plenty of caution to get to the final 5.4gr.

Hey 1KPerDay, here's a few options with Silhouette ;)

Betcha the brass will eject ~ cases won't be scorched or dirty  Woo-Hoo

124 xtreme plated rn. 1.145-1.15 COAL. 4.2 promo/red dot. not very accurate lots of missed plates. One FTE in sig. Not any cleaner than unique.

5.6 power pistol. Flashy and noisy. Very accurate. No missed plates in 50+ rounds. Maybe a bit cleaner than lower charges of Autocomp, but still somewhat scorched cases and some debris.

Next, 5.5 silhouette and 4.6ish bullseye.

I settled on 4.0 gr of Bullseye w/ Xtreme 124 gr CPRN at 1.12". Good results.

Glad you found a combination you like. My current load with this combination is Xtreme 124 gr CPRN, 4.2gr Bullseye, at 1.145". With the Xtreme 124 gr CPHP I just use a COL of 1.091".

Berry's 125gr PRN, 4.7 - 4.9gr Unique, 1.140". Runs 1070-1090 FPS out of Glock 19. CCI SP primers, mixed brass.
5.7gr of Power Pistol does about the same with more flash & bang.
Favorite is 4.3gr W231, but it runs 1,030fps.

I hesitate to try HP-38/W231 because I only have a couple pounds of it and I like it for .380 and .38 Special. Maybe I should try some just to see if it's cleaner than Unique. Nothing I've tried so far is. :D
