Can someone explain to me the possible outcome of the next president on our firearm importations and availability? What about the assault weapons ban? Will a new one be signed?

Simply put, I want to get a hold of any gun that I will ever want in the next year that may have a chance at being outlawed or having importations banned.

Stating of possible new regulations I should be watching out for that could effect any firearms availability would be appreciated.

I'm not holding my breath that there will be a grandfather clause if a new AWB is passed.
But why not buy all the firearms you can afford anyway? I am. Don't forget spare parts, I have a tec-22 that for some reason keeps making the AWB. I bought 2 complete rebuild kits because if there is an AWB I would think parts will get hard to find.

There is only one candidate who will not sign an AWB...

Just in case one of the others get elected, here's my list of what to buy prior to their election:
Hi-cap Mags, drums, and tracers (even for guns I don't yet own)
.50BMG
AR15
AK47
Garand
SKS
AR10
CETME
FAL
More hi-cap mags, and drums

Basically, the AWB currently being proposed will ban all semi-autos. Failing that, they will surely try to ban all hi-caps, all 50BMGs, and all semi-autos capable of using hi-cap mags.

It surely sucks because there's at least $15000 worth of items to buy in my short list, but I think it's much better to have these items before anything is passed as it gives you a much better chance of being able to keep them. IMO

Everyone who calls himself an American Rifleman ought to have at least one militarily credible rifle.

This would be an autoloading rifle with spare parts and magazines in a common military caliber: 5.56, 7.62 nato, or 7.62 commie.

This is true regardless who gets elected, or what legislation is on the horizon.

Don't be surprised to see George Bush issue a directive banning the import of SKS rifles next year.

I'm sure you're beating the Ron Paul drum, but Fred Thompson has said he wouldn't sign one I believe (not 100% sure, I know he's voted againt hi-cap mag bans in the past though), and Huckabee has on his webpage specifically that he opposed the AWB, was glad to see it go, and that there will be no new AWB under his administration. Huckabee seemed to have a great understanding of the 2nd judging by his webpage. Stated it wasn't about hunting, etc.
