UPS

Never had any firearms come up missing ,but once the date of delivery was not right. Called UPS and acted hostile and reminded them i stayed off work to accept said package and of course it never arrived that day, but did the next. Ten days later i received a full refund of shipping cost, letter saying how sorry they were for inconvienence AND 50% OFF my next shiping charges regardless of amount! Just to show that they are not always BS specialists

I once tracked a shipment online, all the way from east coast to west coast. Upon arrival at the destination, it showed the parcel to be out for delivery. And it was delivered. The shipping label only, placed in a neat ziplock bag. It had torn off the package but they transported the label anyway. At each stop it was scanned and sent on its way. So the tracking system showed it moving across the country normally.

They recovered the parcel in an OSD facility because I put a second shipping label inside the box, with my name and phone number. When they opened the box they found the label and called me.

i had a lot of buddies that worked for UPS in college. it's general practice to throw packages through the air onto the truck at the loading dock. whether it's computer equipment marked "handle with care". there's a general lack of pride by the employees of this company.

i will not use UPS, unless i have too. Fedex is the best, followed by the USPS (seriously)

I shipped a flat screen TV through UPS 2 years back. Original box, extra padding, insured for $1k. It arrived shattered. I dont mean cracked, I mean a good 2 foot piece of glass shattered, with a huge dent in the rear. The UPS driver that delivered it to the recipient watched as they opened it, saw the damage and said "That didn't happen on my truck."...
Great.
Took UPS 2 months to refund the money. Yeah...FedEx for me.

what is the main goal of corporates. 1.to make money. 2. **** people over 3. do what they "say" they do.

Just to add fed-ex lost a monitor of mine sent in for repair, even though I insured it for "new cost" of the same monitor, they depreciated it. I waited over 2 months, and the guys at the Pac-and Ship, were friendlly with me and kept at them every week. Fianlly I accepted their offer which was less than the monitor cost and less than I insured it for. I wasn't going to lay out another $300.00 out of my pocket and hope they finally agreed upon the proper price.
Fedex also left a pistol a few years ago, outside my house, not at the door, outside the gate that opens to the courtyard. And it was shipped overnight air as a firearm.
I really don't trust any of them anymore, so I insure everything for full value and only if it is for repair work. Otherwise I'll go pick it up, or not purchase anything I can't physically see and inspect. It's a sloppy state of affairs all around. Most people do not take pride in what they do. It's simplly a means to an end.

While not impossible, it is hard for an employee inside the terminal/center to take something out. Packages are scanned several times upon arrival and before going out; employees have to walk through the guard shack in single file with no containers, backpacks, etc.

Not saying it didn't get stolen, but ya never know...........

update so far:

I contacted UPS. they were pretty much nonexistent in their CS department, of course. They told me to file a claim through their site. After doing so, I contacted them again. I swear to God himself if they did not just copy-paste the same brochure pamphlet jargon and sign a different name on it.

Either way, the claim is in for the value of the package.

I went down to the local PD and they said there was nothing they could do unless I can prove that it was stolen (technically I can't).

I called the ATF, where the person there was at least helpful, although he either did not seem to know much about the laws or was passively interrogating me to make sure that I had not violated the law or something - at least that is how it felt. In the end, he informed me that they could not do anything unless it is believed to be stolen, and that it was all with UPS at this point. So all that is out there is a vague report under my name that UPS lost my gun in their transport ways, sitting in an ATF guy's file drawer. Or who knows, maybe a black van is outside my house right now keeping an eye on me.

Since UPS is not very helpful over the internet (saw it coming:cuss:) I'll go back up there and talk to someone in-person about the claim when I can.

Anyone else have any ideas on what else to do?

I hate UPS with a passion. Most places you order from uses UPS. If I have a choice I always use Fed Ex.
RP88 I wish you the best getting this resolved. It's sad when the police and BATF don't get involved.

Gonna haff to call BS on this one!
I also had a friend that worked for 'em-while it's true they toss 'em in the air, if you mark it fragile or handle with care, they throw it underhand! :D

I've been to the hub to pick up packages many times and seen stuff roll off the truck to the main feed line, and keep going right off the edge. Looks like 'bout a 6ft drop onto the floor.

I just know they hate it when that happens...

I've used UPS for 10+ years.

They NEVER pay on insurance claims. It is always twisted around to be the fault of the shipper. I have NEVER in 10 years once been paid. Last year they lost or totally destroyed/damaged 25% of my large boxes.

The inside packaging, type of box, amount of tape, label readablility, all come into play. Trust me, it's never their fault.

I started deducting the value of losses from my account balance due. Then they sent a collection agency after me.

I could care less if they find it as a box full of mangled scrap. It was broken to begin with. I just want them to find it. $450 is a decent chunk of money to me (as it would be to most people)

I've shipped over 10K in ammo all across the USA thru UPS and never so much as a shell was lost.
The boxes have Ammo and Adult Signature stickers all over them. I've always been amazed they none were ever "LOST in Transit". I'm sending another 10 Boxes of rifle ammo out tomorrow, we'll see how that goes. They're always insured for 10% over street value too. That way if something does happen I get my shipping costs back too.
I had 1 claim once a few years back. After remaining missing for 30 days they honored it, and I had a check delivered by UPS driver 4 days later. No hassles either, I was very surprised.

Good luck, please keep us informed.

Having worked there and watched the Gateway computers getting slammed down the conveyors, it all depends on the package - the heavy Snap-on tool kits were grudgingly loaded with care - no one wanted to go picking up sockets. Employees had to walk through the guard shack in single file - if you were a driver and had a lunch kit, it was inspected; the Industrial Engineers were always looking over your shoulder, especially if your section had lots of damage or lost claims

It's sad when the police and BATF don't get involved.

Report it stolen and when found don't expect a quick return. As the UPS hub in northern NJ probably handles a few hundred thousand packages a month having one get sidetracked was not unusual. Within a few days if not found, then worry. I've never had a package go missing in many years.

FedEx doesn't do anywhere near the volume of UPS.

parker770,

FedEx lost a package I sent once. The value of the package was $0, however they found it real quick when I told them what type of material was in it, and who would be calling them to ask questions about the lost package shortly.

I always used to ship classified documents by registered mail. :D

The theft report needs to be made within the jurisdiction from which the gun was stolen and by the person or entity from which it was stolen. In this case, it would appear you need to get the UPS distribution center to make a theft report to their local law enforcement agency if you're going to get the gun entered in the NCIC database. Yeah, I know, good luck with that one.

With luck, depending on department policy, the law enforcement agency might take a theft complaint from the owner should they wish to journey to the UPS distribution center's jurisdiction with proof of ownership for the property and some sort of proof the property was stolen and proof of where it was stolen from. For all this you would need the cooperation of UPS and probably won't get it. From a criminal law perspective UPS is the victim here. The gun's owner would have a civil complaint against UPS but nothing criminal even against the person who stole it.

JDGray, with insurance, it's VERY easy to get shipping up there, I was going to ship an iphone and a few things down to Florida a few weeks ago, to insure it's value and the few other things in the box (About $400) with it and send it 2 day air, it would have cost $80.

I paid in the end about $15 with packaging to ship it flat rate in a USPS box with a ton of bubble wrap haha.

Personally though, I've had a few problems with UPS, never any really with Fedex, and none with USPS.

UPS once left a package of mine on the front porch (I live in a 3 family house) about 2 feet from a sign saying to deliver all packages around the rear, and, it was picked up and taken before anyone knew it was there, what ended up happening is I had to contact the seller (Blackhawk tactical, was a 3-point sling) and they had to file the claim, I believe it took about 3 weeks for it all to go through and get the claim, but, it was only about $40 I think, so, maybe it was easier convincing them to pay out the smaller amount...not sure...

Either way, best of luck!
