I've shipped handguns via UPS before at a UPS Store, but I wanted to read up and make I was still current on their policy. I did a quick search on the UPS website and came up with this.

http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/prepare/guidelines/firearms.html

It says:
" * Your packages that contain firearms will not be accepted for shipment at UPS Drop Boxes, with UPS SonicAir® service, at locations of The UPS Store or any third-party retailer, or with international services."

Am I to understand that The UPS store will not ship firearms?

Another thread has been running about this subject. You can find it by using the search feature. Anyway, apparently UPS will ONLY accept a gun from an individual at one of their hub facilities, and they require that it be shipped either to a licensed dealer or the manufacturer. They also are much more warm & fuzzy if the gun is partially disassembled, although this is not a requirement.

Yes, that is correct, at least in my area. I tried every UPS store within 30 miles and they all turned me down. I don't know why. When I foolishly showed up at one, I thought that the box droid was literally going to pee his pants.

I run a warehouse, shipping and reciving, we don't use ups for shipping anything, i wouldn't send any personal items with them either, i won't go on a long rant of why but there are many reason not to use them for anything.
We use FED-EX.

UPS and guns

I shipped a precarved Hawken stock, no metal parts, to a Friend. I packed it well, hauled it in to ship, and was dumb enough to mention that it was a gun stock. The counter girl took on the look of a panic stricken deer, must have pushed a button, and the manager showed up. They had to unpack it, and even then they were not sure if they could accept it. I reached My limit, told them that I was prepared to stand there until things got settled, even if they had to call the cops. The fools were not even prepared to use any common sense about the matter.
Next time I ship a stock I will say it is a wooden leg!

Ok, So I'm getting the idea that UPS isn't cool. How about FedEx....are they any better? I searched their site and didn't get any clear cut firearms policy.

At Fed Ex you can ship to a FFL at any location, except Kinkos I am told.

If you are in the midwest, use Spee Dee. Better yet than Fed Ex.

The numbnutted hoplophobes at UPS are SOOOOO concerned about shipping guns...yet their driver left a rifle on my porch last Friday.

I ship all my handguns via UPS and have few if any problems. Most are returned via Fed Ex who always leaves them on my front porch in plain view even though all have the "Adult Signature Required" label.

On a local level, I have found our UPS drivers and the counter folks at the actual centers to be professional and courteous and most have been there as long as I've been in the area.

Shipping and receiving guns and ammo without a hiccup for 5 years here in anti-gun leftist West Los Angeles. :)

Here's one reason why. A rare look into a UPS warehouse, chock full of package-whomping gorillas.

I refuse to use UPS under any circumstances. 4 out of every 5 packages come to me with broomstick holes in them, corners bashed in, scuff marks, etc. I even had one with a tire mark on it, no joke. I hate UPS.

I've had boxes of ammo (some mostly rimfire) come with holes and bashed corners.

They also have a habit of requiring a signature 100% of the time, even though they have my signature on file (I've filled out the form 3 times) and I always leave notes to NOT require a signature.

FedEx is my carrier of choice. They're faster, gentler, and much, much cheaper than UPS. Most of my FedEx packages look like they were packed on my porch and set down in front of my door with care.

I once shipped an AK-47 parts kit (no receiver) via UPS and on the label I described it as "gunsmith parts". The lady behind the counter grilled me on whether it was a gun or not.

Another time I had to ship my Walther P22 back to the factory. I took it in to Fed-Ex and NO QUESTIONS asked. I'll be shipping anything even remotely gun related via Fed-Ex from now on. :)

:fire:

I'm not sure if it does or not and how recent this message is. I however shipped a rifle to a guy through UPS but had to go to the main hub (not a big deal, one mile away from home) and had to create an account for myself. Also had to show I was shipping to an FFL. Did this about a year ago...
