US Airways pilot fired.

TAB, how many times has a pilot or air-marshal had to fire their gun during a flight? How many times do the airport screeners catch someone actually trying to smuggle weapons onto a plane in order to hijack it? As far as I know, none.

Those thing are there primarily as deterrents, showing the BG's that they have very little chance of success in their mission.

9/11 was the surest deterrent to a BG trying that again. Do you think the passengers will ever give up a plane again? Do you think the pilots will ever yield the cockpit to BG's again? 9/11 made damn sure that the answer to those two questions is a firm NO.

The odds of a pilot ever having to use their sidearm during a flight are about zilch. So why worry? But please do take the stupid holster and flush it down the toilet. Better to simply mandate that the pistol be carried with an empty chamber.

So far govt guns on planes have been used to shoot an unarmed mentally disturbed man who wasn't even on the plane when he was shot by FAMs, and one cockpit shot by a FFDO handling his gun when he should not have been.

"They" told us so?

Of course, the first time a govt gun saves a plane full of passengers, "we" will jump way ahead in the numbers game! :)
