US concealed carry association

Do you get a shiny badge? :neener:
I haven't heard of it. To be honest I'm really proud of how the CCW laws are coming in this country (although the fact we need them at all is wrong but oh well). I don't imagine an organization would hurt as long as they are intelligent and can further the cause like many of the folks on this website.

I just looked at two differen web sites that were listed as "USCCA". One was fairly professional, but it relied quite a bit on Massad Ayoob books and articles (Sorry, I have NO respect for Ayoob). The other web site was almost comical, put together by a guy who decided to put together an association after reading a magazine article on CCW!

Benefits? Well, the professionally-made web site said that, as a member, you'd be able to download articles from their site!

Personally, it sounds like a "grassroots" movement that hasn't caught on yet. You can bet that they'd be sending you passionate pleas for "donations" if you become a member!

Don't misunderstand what I've said, for I am FOR CCW rights and national reciprocity laws. It's just that the CCW/CHL "movement" is still fairly new, and there hasn't been any standardization of how CCW/CHL permits are issued. The "shall issue" states now number 41, which is great, but a big problem is with the remaining 9 states. From all of the research that I've done, there is NO way that at least 5 of those 9 states will change to "shall issue".

It took several DECADES of work to get the "Police Officer Bill of Rights" (national reciprocity) signed into law by the President. Even though it is now LAW, there are 3 states that are "balking" about allowing the law to supercede their STATE laws.

This forum is a good place to start if interested

I joined USCCA because the organization is focusing on the one aspect of firearms ownership that I participate in everyday, CHL/CCW. The magazine is professional and well thought out with a wide selection of articles including weapon reviews, holsters, women carry issues, older generation issues, everyday people issues, etc.

There is none of the over-hype. I even bought a subscription for my father, who is as mainstream as they come.

The organization is in the process of building a Washington based CHL lobby, which will seperate concealed carry issues from the hunting/sport agendas.

In my opinion, it is a good addition to the pool. It is a better use of money than subscriptions to gun magazines that have never shot a weapon they didn't like.

And I have not been solicited once for funding outside of the normal subscription renewals and the new online subscriber site.

Oh yeah, sorry...no shiny badge either. I guess there was a dig in there but I didn't get it.

Y'all take care,
Will

Nice magazine to lend to people you're trying to educate (reluctant spouses, etc.). They always run a couple of "profiles" of everyday CCW people, focuing on why they carry, how ordinary they are, etc. Now, of course, the first "ordinary" people were all CCW instructors, but they've had a few good ones. I keep the magazines for those relatives or friends that ask why anyone would have the need to carry.

From the page entitled "Member Benefits", here are some of the organization’s current projects:

U.S. Concealed Carry - A.C.F.
Armed Citizen Foundation

Your membership in U.S. Concealed Carry will also help in our fight to maintain and expand our natural-born rights to self-denense [sic].

We do this critical work through our Non-Profit Organization, U.S. Concealed Carry - Armed Citizen Foundation.

Here is what we're working on!

1- Create and promote a series of emotionally compelling, "FLASH" videos that provacatively [sic] demonstrate the value and benefits of the responsibly armed citizen. These videos will be distributed on the internet and on cable television networks.

2- Sponsor & promote "Bring A Friend to the Range" shooting and self-defense awareness clinics.

3- Create, distribute & promote FREE guides such as "The Armed Citizen Solution - 12 Critical Steps to Self-Defense You'll Never Learn From the Mainstream Media".

4- Buy "education and awareness" advertising in national "general cirulation [sic]" publications. (USA Today, Wall Street Journal, etc.)

With U.S. Concealed Carry - A.C.F., we're out to educate every American about the benefits of the armed citizen.

If you believe in these projects, and you can verify that these works-in-progress are truly taking place, then it doesn't seem like a bad organization to join.

If you're the type who joins an organization solely for the "free gift(s)", versus the virtue of their mission, then this probably isn't the organization for you.

Joining an organization is essentially a donation to the cause. Sadly, in order to obtain funds, most organizations have to develop whimsical "memberships" whereby they give away junk like knick-knacks, stickers, and magazines.

I was cogitating on an adequate reply and then I read what GI Mutt said, he said exactly what I was going to. I will add though, that the magazine, which comes in a plain inconspicuous wrapper, is one of the few, on any subject, that I read word for word, cover to cover.

dhoomonyou, the magazine is sent in a manila envelope. The return address only say USCCA along with their address. There is NO mention of concealed carry on the envelope, and not just anyone will know what USCCA stands for. Also, I have NOT been solicited for ANYTHING let alone money.

As I have never received any mail but the magazine, I can't testify as to what other mail looks like. The magazine comes in a plain envelope and gets read cover-to-cover, several times. It then gets passed around at work (I love taking gun magazines into the school district work space. )

The magazine comes in a plain brown wrapper and all the other stuff is email. That way you can view it in the comfort of your own home.

I too am a Member and really like the Magazine. :)

Well it looks like I'm going to join another organization. I'll watch carefully for some of their Pro CCW campaigns on TV or Cable.

Looks like a good one to join...

USCCA looks like a good organization to join.

Good group of folks.

I have written an article for them, and our own George Hill writes the monthly gun reviews for them.

I started subscribing with them back when the magazine was about like gun week, it has improved drastically since then.

It's good to have a group dedicated to nothing but issues regarding concealed carry.

It's been fun to watch it grow from the start.

the wife and i are members, and it is fun leaving the magazines in various places, once our address is removed from the cover.

I joined the USCCA. Nice to get some magazines to bring with me to events and read during downtime. I also check out their online forum.

I haven't joined, mainly because the magazine covers portray CCW in a bad light. Every cover I have seen (maybe 3-4) features people with their weapons visible -- almost like they are showing off that they are carrying. I thought concealed meant concealed.

Unisaw,
It is a magazine about defense with a pistol so I would expect it have covers with such photography. That photography is to attract the eye of people like us but since it is shipped brown cover it is hidden until you open it. Like the old saying say "dont judge a book.........

The magazine comes in a plain brown wrapper and all the other stuff is email. That way you can view it in the comfort of your own home.

Right, that way your neighbors don't know your into guns. They just think your into porn...

I elected not to join because it seemed like simply a one-man, "all hat, no cattle" sideshow. But, I don't get the magazine, just the trainload of useless emails.

You guys are worried about the return address? Plain Brown envelopes?I guess you don't belong to the NRA or don't receive any gun catalogs. In fact just got a Gander Mountain and a Cheaper Than Dirt catalogs in the mail today.
