I am strongly considering a M&P .40 Compact after having the opportunity to fire it a few weeks ago, but I need a little help.

Is anyone here able to post a picture of an M&P Compact with a Glock 19 or 26? I could have made the size comparison at the gun shop...but I just remembered.

Does the compact M&P share holsters with another type of gun...not necessarily an exact match, but close enough. For examle, I can use some Sig leather holsters for CZ and Glock.

Your general thoughts on the M&P Compact .40 are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have an M&P 40 Compact and had a lot of problems with the mags dropping. After a lot of time and numerous attempts to correct the problem, S&W finally gave me a new frame and I installed a heavier mag catch spring. Looks like the problem is finally solved.

As for the gun... I like it and enjoy shooting it very much. It has a great feel in the hand. The downside is the capacity... just 10+1. I say this because my G19 is approximately the same size ( +/- 1/4 inch is meaningless to me when carrying a gun) as the M&P (I can carry either one concealed with no difference in felt size or weight) and the G19 holds 16 rounds. Five extra rounds in a gun equally well concealed and carried. That is meaningful to me. Add to that the absolutely stellar reliability & performance of the G19 and I give the nod to the 19. Carry a G17 mag as back up and you've got a great 17 round reload! I still like the M&P 40C and think it's a good choice, however, but mine doesn't get much use compared to my 1911 Commanders, G19, and G30.

I have a M&P40 compact and I really like it (great conceal carry gun). I have had no issues (knock on wood) with mags dropping out while shooting it (though I only have about 800 rounds through it so far I believe), like some people have reported with their M&P 9mm/.40 compacts on the various gun boards. If you do get one that acts up, S&W should take care of it for you (they have a great customer support/warranty service from everything I have read), like they finally did for Zeekrider. As to its dimensions, based on Glock sizes as a reference, I found that height and length wise it falls between a G26 and a G19 and width wise it falls between a G19/G26 and a G30 (and yes I own a G19, a G26 and a G30). I don't own a measuring caliper, but I am judging the width based on it will not fit into a Kydex IWB holster I have for my G19 and G23 (the M&P40c slide is a bit too thick to fit properly), but it will fit my Kydex IWB holster I have for both my G29 and G30 (though I did have to tighten down the holster retention screws a bit more than I do for my G29/G30). Here is a pic I took months ago of my M&P40c next to my G26, that should give you at lease a height/length visual comparison. Hope this helps.

General thoughts: I think S&W makes the finest revolvers in the world.

Have you fondled and/or shot a HK 2000SK in .40? Might want to at least look at it before going with the M&P.

Doooh!....I went out and bought the M&Pc .40 before reading your post. :)

H&K makes a fine pistol as well. Very good suggestion. The S&W made it home with me this time...but an H&K could follow in the near future.

I just realized that I can now respond my original post. I'll post pictures later.

DIDO WITH AZglock

I have the M&P 40 sub compact and love it, traded my G 27 for it. IMHO they are stronger then the glocks and have a little more survivability for the shooter and the gun compared to glocks in the event of a KABOOM. As for the H&K's, well they are good guns but they have been showing a lot of wear for the amount of rounds fired. This is from a point of view of a field armor and FI. I think it's the mass production thing.

You will like your M&P Compact!

I miss my M&P40c so much. I traded it for a Glock 26 to switch to 9mm and match my Glock 17. I don't regret the 9mm but I do miss the comfort of the M&P and and the looks, and the unique sound the slide makes when you rack it back and the stell novak three dot sights and the trigger....o'hell you know what my next purchase will be. :)
