A guy who works for me has a friend that is selling off his dad's firearms collection and has one pistol that caught my eye. Its a used Sig P226 9mm blued. Looks to be in pretty good shape. He told me to "make him an offer". I have no idea what a fair price on a used P226 would be. Any idea what a "fair" price would be on this handgun? I want to get a good deal but I don't want to insult him either (if that makes sense). Thanks.

Do you know about how old it is?

The value will vary depending on the actual condition and if it comes with original case, magazines, manual, and test target (if German/W. German).

IMO if the P226 is a standard nitron finish model in at least very good condition and comes with 2 factory magazines it is worth around $500 at least in my neck of the woods. If that is a close description I would probably offer him $475 or so saving him the trouble of having to try and sell it himself or take it to a gun store or pawn shop where he would get much less.

Price goes up from there if closer to new condition and includes case/manual/test target.

Lets hear what others have to say.

Good luck!

Totally agree with sigarms. I baught a used p226 in great condition with 2 mags, but not the factory box & paper work. I gave $425 for it. Hope this helped, good luck.

condition and whether it's german or not are the primary determining factors, IMO. I'd wager sigarms' evaluation is about what I'd offer, pending condtion. I might start at $400 just because I'm cheap, and that's what I paid for my german P226 about 15 years ago, and is therefore the perpetual price I would pay for another. LOL

I would think $450-$500 would be fair.

Other variations...DA/SA, DAK, SAO, SAS, railed, folded slide, milled slide... would only affect price as to desirability
