Hi folks.

Last spring I bought a new Springfield XD-45 with a 4" barrel for about $600.

It turned out to be too much gun for me and so I've agreed to sell it to my dad. But we don't know what is a fair price, given that I'm not a firearms dealer and the gun isn't technically "new" any more.

However, it's been fired less than 50 times and is clean and in great condition.

If I was selling this gun to a third party, what do you think I could get for it?

I don't plan to have an unpleasant negotiation with my own father about this, but after a call we had about it yesterday, I think he's looking to knock more money off the price than I'm going to think is reasonable under the circumstances.

Can y'all help?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

600 bucks? WOW. That's high. Well, it depends on the model and where you are located.

Sorry, I paid 535.00 for mine NIB with the standard XD package. As for prices, I assume that since you are selling it to your dad, you don't want to burn him on the price, but don't want your underwear stolen either. Used prices vary from area to area, and even store to store. They are very subjective.
Some tips:
Check around gunstores in your area and look at what used prices for them are (if they have any).
Check Gunbroker.com, they have them from low-mid 400s NIB: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=112286787
They also have several in the 600 dollar area.

Check out the Blue Book of Gun Values and add roughly 10% (I find their values too low).
Talk to your Dad and see if he has something you like. Maybe make a swap, and then everyone's happy?

Good Luck!

Kind of a hard call, since it's your father you're selling it to.

Did this model have the thumb-safety or night sights? $600 is $100 more than what the baseline model goes for online, but those features, along with dealer markup and state of residence, could have been apart of that original price, making $600 about right.

Yikes!

Folks - this is super helpful. Although I'm wishing I'd done a better job bargain hunting when I bought the gun in the first place!

Oops.

Well, once bitten, twice wise (I hope).

Thank you.

I bought my XD45 from my dad very lightly used (bout 100 rounds through it when he sold it to me). It was a 4" XD45 service with standard sights and I gave him 400 dollars for it. Since then Ive added a lasermax guide rod laser to it and put about 1000 more rounds on it but aside from that we both thought 400 was a good deal considering the like new condition.

Depends on your relationship with your dad. Mine, I'd have him make me an offer and take it. YMMV.

Yikes, Is Right~!

As I paid only $360 + applicable sales tax for this Springfield XD
.45ACP Service Model in December of '05; as it was one of the
first to carry the Springfield Armory name on it~! It also came
with all the GEAR accessories.

I must fess up and say that my NIB Springfield .45ACP XD was
actually suppose to be "a salesman's sample"; but accidentally
got sold to me for that fantastic low price, long before the
rave reviews started pouring in~!

I paid 499 for the basic all black 4" package. I almost bought the bi-tone model, but it was 40 bucks more, and wanted to use that for ammo. I would say anywhere between 400 and 450 is fair for a slightly used XD45.

Hmm. I paid $499. for my 5" tactical XD45 new.

The plastic guns in general lose more value than steel guns do for resell.

I've seen quite a few of my model being sold for right around $400.

Final Thoughts...

"Y'all" thanks for all the thoughts and for the relationship advice.

Curiously enough, I've been noticing my ingratitude in a variety of contexts over the last few years. But noticing it is not enough, is it? Walking the path (high road, I guess, right?) is tougher than finding it.

Cheers, folks.

Thanks again.
